Hi Alan, You are doing well!
http://chess-results.com/tnr36828.aspx?art=25&fedb=SCO&lan=1&flag=30&m=-1&wi=1000
Alan Tate is playing in the A group.
1 rd: IM Yimaz 2476 1/2
2 rd: IM Zufic 2442 1
3 rd: GM Cvitan 2526 1/2
4rd: GM Drazic 2545 I'm watching this game on fritz & it's looking good, in my humble opinion. On move 23 Alan rejected a repetition to fight for the win!

Playing with black to boot. After four rounds he is lying joint 2nd, 8th on tie-break.

Will get another GM in the next round. Hopefully a great start towards a norm of some kind.

Awesome Alan! Well done! Cool

This game I am watching with Alan Tate vs GM Lenic Luka looks winning for Alan too (at least a draw - he is up 2 pawns in an endgame). His performance rating is already 2685.

His opponent is short of time but I think the game is a dead draw, despite Alan being up two pawns. I can't see how the position can be won with the opposite coloured Bishops. Sad

It's a draw! Sad

The fact that you can have a sad face about a draw with a GM shows how much Alan was winning though! Unlucky Alan! Confused

Great results!

Impressive results so far, should make an IM norm easily now!

Thanks for the comments. The ending was drawn, apparently you need 3 ranks inbetween the pawns for a win!

Respect, Alan!

This must be one of the best performances for a long long time of a Scottish player!

Unlucky Alan, but well-played all the same! Coincidentally, this article appeared today on one of my favourite chess sites...

http://www.chess.com/article/view/opposite-colored-bishops2

A snippet...

"Today we will consider just one feature, although very important – positions with two extra pawns. To win, there normally have to be at least 3 files between the pawns ..."

Do you mean files like Andy Burnett said? Interesting to know.

Keep up the good work Alan, don't feel pressured by your performance so far. Just keep playing as you have been: it's nice to watch! Very Happy

Yes, like Andy said. I got confused between ranks and files Wink
