Good luck vs GM Predojevic Borki (the seed 1 player) in round 6! You can beat him Alan! |

Anybody watching this game?
Was it just me, or did the moves change?
Now it would appear that after making a move Alan's clock is still runnung. |

Not sure if the moves changed.
After 21 Raf8 Fritz suggest that anything except Nd3 is losing for white. Nd3 keeps the game even.
Alan is doing well in this one. This guy is the number 1 seeded player in the event and strong even by Grandmaster standards. |

Yes, looked to me as if the moves changed.
At one point, it looked as if they both had the possibility of forking queen and rook and then it suddenly changed.
I also noticed the clock issue. |

The moves definitely changed - they originally showed 15.g3 (instead of 15.Ne1) and continued that position for a few moves, only later changing back to the game moves!? |

Alan lost.
Can anyone with extensive knowledge say why he lost?
What's wrong with playing Qc6 ? |

I think we will have to wait for the PGN file before anyone could even attempt an explanation. As far as I could see the board malfunctioned after move 29. |

In the position shown white is technically winning but I don't think it's resignable? Maybe the position was wrong or Alan ran out of time. |

I thought 29...Qc2 (with the idea of Rf4) looked strong. My guess is Alan lost on time : (
Just as i type this, the LIVE games board is updating Alan's game!? move-by move! Very strange
Now it's showing illegal moves

Something strange with the boards. Game seems to have started updating moves again. But moves make no sense. |

Done this before. What happens is the computer loses contact with the board and you have to put the moves in manually. Reminds me of the long Nigel Short game last year at the London Chess Classic where we lost the 2 kings for about 80 moves... |

What does Alan need for an IM norm?
Including tomorrows opponents, he needs no more points provided his last 2 games are v pin 1-7
1/2 point needed v tomorrows opponent and play pins 1-26 in last 2 games
1 point needed v tomorrows opponent or everyone except the last 3.
Any more than that then it is guaranteed
For a GM norm, 2 points from tomorrows opponent, + and average of 2520 from the last 2 games (2 games pins 1-12 or 13 and 14 with one of the higher graded players)
2.5 points from pin 29 or above
3 points is automatic
I hope I have worked this out correctly All the best Alan, we are all rooting for you! |
