Keti, I think, on 7.
2nd = Dempsey, Sreeves, Grant and Pritchett on 6.5
6th = Roberts and Green 6
A very exciting finish, Keti saccing the exchange then relying on her husband to hold the draw whilst short of time. At least I think that's what happened - I had one eye on the golf.
A good championship - kept me entertained at least |

49... Qd2+! is a draw. The difference is 50 Kh1 Qd1+ 51 Kg2 Qc2+!! and no Kf3.
Of course, hard to envisage that Qf2 is wrong and Qd2 is right. |

Well done, Keti! There were more than a few roller coaster affairs at the top end of the draw in this event, but Keti held her nerve just a bit better than the rest of us and that made the difference. Well done to the organisers and arbiters, too!
PS: I still think that the champion should be offered a place in the Olympiad team (in the Olympiad year only) + a place in the Euro team in Euro team champs years. But I would not be averse to Alex's idea of tieing it to rating in some way ... possibly the champion should not just have won the event but have attained a minimum ELO or CS rating performance in winning the title of say 2500 ... however, I certainly do not agree that the winner must actually have an existing 2500 rating (either before or after the championship win), as this discriminates against improving players, who are bound to be stronger than any assumed strength by reference to past performance. |

I have updated everything apart from the games. I hope no one minds but I am just too tired tonight. It has been a long long week for Alex, Donald and myself.
I'll work on them during lunch tomorrow and will post tomorrow evening
Hope you all enjoyed this years Scottish, it was certainly an exciting finish. One thing that made me laugh today was everyone leaving the room when Keti's game had finished not realising it was board 2 that would then decide.
Well done to the players, the staff at the centre said to me that you all were a credit and they would love to see us back again |

Congratulations to all the prize winners and many thanks to all organisers and arbiters. I would just like to give a special mention to Chris James and Stephen Smith, two players nearer to my own standard. Guys, you were great and you should be so proud of the terrific efforts both of you put in throughout the tournament. I am sure that all guys similar to myself that normally play in minors and majors are as delighted for you as I am.
Robin. |

Well done Keti!
When Sreeves beat Keti I was starting to wonder whether the top seed was going to be able to win outright, but she aint a GM for nothing! =) |

Confidence Jim, be confident! A confident player is 200 elo higher than a player who lacks confidence.
Does anyone know if the above exchange sac was actually sound? Apparently it wasn't? |

Many thanks Andy. Due to work commitments prior to two weeks away in the sun I was unable to come down and cheer (quietly) the players on but the coverage you provided was an excellent alternative. Many thanks - much time was then spent at Edinburgh, Heathrow, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale airports following the games in the last few rounds.
The work done by yourself, Alex and co. needs to be applauded! And loudly. |
