I'm extremely happy but I believe that one of my Bishops is considering joining the Dark Side.

this was genius George. I had to check the picture again to see what you were on about.

I withdraw my entry and support this to win.

Good spot George Thomson.

We have Fischer Random Chess.

How about Kramnik Chess or Thomson Chess?

It would involve a bishop or bishops which can move for either side depending who is on the move.

What I want to know is ... how could it work?

Looking for the whackiest or funniest or most interesting suggestions.

My first thought is it would be a kind of kamikaze piece which you would want to get out of the board as ASAP.

e.g.

1. e4 Bxb2 (threatening the rook on a1)
2. Bb1 (saving the a1 rook) Bxd2 (kamikaze since it cannot be saved)

... so it might be duff (though if there were 4 such bishops, the same situation or a slightly different version may play out on each corner of the board)

Could the idea of a dual identity bishop or bishops be made to work as some wacky chess variant?

Does anyone want a game of this against me? The winner would be the 1st world champion of this variant game and could be as famous as Wilhelm Steinitz Wink

First to arrange such a game and win is World Champion and can seek bids from rival challengers if they stump up suitable terms and conditions to tempt the Champion to defend his crown.

PD

I know, check that numpty Leko behind me, he is all chuffed because his wife let him have a can of lager for Christmas.
Us Comrades have a bottle of Vodka for breakfast and still hammer the "rest of the world" team.

Kramnik struggles with the draconian toilet restrictions imposed on him at the insistence of team Topalov...
