Admin - thanks for answering my string of questions. Hadn't occurred to me about the trophies. Do wonder why charity status is an avenue that's not being explored further or was rejected previously, although I'm sure that the decision would have been the right one. I'm just not aware of all of the facts.
I do have a personal interest in this, as I'm in the process of moving the Prestwick congress event down this line, if it's possible. I believe it would open up more funding opportunities as well as benefiting from the tax incentives. I'm not aware of any dark side to it. A congress organising body and a national body are two differebt animals thogh.
Re clocks - Didn't know if they were the XL ones that seem to be compatible with the wireless system.
Besides, how would I know we had them at Prestwick. I didn't play and clocks were you, Donald, John and Pauls department. Which is just as well, seeing how you're the ones that know how to set them. I can only do windy clocks. That's clocks that wind up not clocks in a storm or with a digestive issue.
One last question on finances. Is there a budget plan in place for 2011-12? Can't find one on the CS site. |

Question for Mr McHarg (or Mr Howie). Assuming, sensory boards become a reality would it be possible to have the games on the CS site with perhaps the game of the day visible slap bang on the front page. The Brotish Championship had the games within their website structure, you clicked on games and it took you to another page within the Championship website.
Anyone fancy trying their hand at commentary at the 2012 or 2013 Prestwick event? |

Any particular reason why it's below 1900 and not 1950, 1850 or 1800? Personally, I might back the idea with one or two caveats, although there is a blatantly obvious reason as to why a one-off levy on players rated below 1900 may be unacceptable to the majority and I'm not getting the logic behind the sweeping statement.
Perhaps grading fees should be proportional depending in the number of letters in a name. Say a multiplier of 4. So my games would cost between 56p and 60p depending if I kept my middle initial. Of course titled players would pay the 8p or 12p to have their title displayed.
The reason being (do I need to give a reason?) that if people all had short names then the printed grading list would be cheaper. |

Was before my time as ED so I am not altogether aware of the facts myself, however I know the people to speak to go get the facts if you know what I mean.

Was deliberate on my part when we started renewing the clocks, I wanted to go with the ones that would be compatible with the boards as I have made it my mission to make sure we get them

It was the treasurers report for the council meeting. Council has to approve the budget for the following year. I think it is Home -> CS Info on the main page |

I've just joined the CS 100 club and set up a standing order for £1 per month without any problem although the bank had to phone Mac to get the sorting code. |

Re Charity Status
Whilst the law changed a number of years ago, the application of the new regulations only recently came into force.
Simply under the old rules CS was not allowed to become a charity.
The new regulations are such that International and the Championship would prevent CS still. It would be possible if these two areas were separated from the main body. There would be problems concerning membership with doing this in Scotland (and Wales I think) which may not apply to the ECF if they go down the compulsory membership route. |

I spoke with Mac today and he has no objections nor can forsee any problem with putting a Donate button on the webpage for the purposes of raising money for the Boards. I am going to ask Andrew McHarg to set it up on the page.
As we announced today at the AGM, we have ordered 8 on the strength of the generous donation we have received for the Scottish Championships. The conditions attached to that are that we have to repay that money to the Scottish Championships so please keep the fundraising ideas going.
I will be working on the minutes tomorrow, probably during the Grand Prix, they will be sent out to the Directors for verification and proof reading and I aim to have them published within a fortnight.
As to the charge for the boards hire, we discussed 4 options today. Donation from congress, £50 flat fee, Charge of £1 per person (ie entry fee increased by £1) or Donation with a recommendation of £50 min). In the end it has been left to the board to decide with a feeling that we should give congresses the choice of Donation (with the recommendation) or £1 per person. Next season we would set the fees based on the feedback from the congresses. |

This ‘generous donation’ is simply wonderful news. But, allowing us the flexibility to buy the Boards upfront is the icing on the cake!
OK, we have to pay back to the Scottish Championship in due course, but this jump start is such an advantage. What an ‘unexpected consequence’ - and you can say that in spades.
We are honoured to have such an enlightened benefactor, and I hope Alex stresses that. Congratulations to him and to all in Chess Scotland who have made this possible. But, above all, thank you to a kind, self-effacing benefactor. |

Lots to comment on.
Some excellent news and great ideas flowing. Is this the forward looking inclusive Chess Scotland I have dreamed of? 
After returning from Sutherland with no mobile signal over the weekend and a severely bruised arm from clay pigeon shooting I have a lot to catch up on. Including several chess related texts and emails.
Its great to see so much positivity! I will add my thoughts later.
