Yes folks it is that time again!!

The entry forms will be emailed to club secretaries by 14th September and the closing date for entries will be 5th Oct.

This should be ample time for all entries to be returned as I am sure you have all been looking forward to the big day and have your teams primed!!!

As everyone knows the venue in Dunfermline is very popular and we have already committed to the venue at the last AGM. Last year's event meant a dip into club funds of £700 to pay bills. This is what the savings are for but obviously cannot be done on a regular basis as we would soon find ourselves financially embarassed -- Those of you who know the Treasurer, Nan Grant (Mam) know that this would definately not be allowed to happen!!!!

After scrutinising the whole budget -- including grading fees, etc we need a total of £2500 to break even. Therefore, after discussion with the SNCL team, it has been decided that this year's entry fee will be £80 with no refund at the end of season.

Although this is a sizeable increase I hope you agree that this is still great value for money and I look forward to seeing you all on the 25th October.

No arguments from me on the value for money front.

£16 quid for 7 graded games, for some FIDE rated and in a great venue and an extra 90 mins thinking time (or in my case groaning time ..... "why did I make that weakening pawn move when I knew before I played it it was wrong.... etc etc... Mad

).

As things stand East Kilbride will have two teams entering this year. Very Happy

I agree £16 for 7 games is decent value for money, however money could have been saved by not FIDE rating the event.

At our club evening on Tuesday, I was asked whether Giffnock had entered the SNCL. I have posted off the entry form, and cheque, in plenty of time, so I am sure that we are.

Unusually however, this season there has been neither postings on here about who hasn't entered, nor advance notice of the first day's fixtures.

Now, personally I play the bottom board for a division 4 team, so I do not try to prepare for specific opponents, but those who play in the first division do. How will one or two people know whether to turn up for a half day?

Being in the fourth division I would like to know that an even number of teams have entered and that we will have two matches.

Considering the total cost of running the league, the rather penny pinching idea of saving on the fees is perhaps the worst reason yet put forward for getting rid of FIDE grading.

Well I could give about another 5 if I needed to, but since the issue has been debated to death in the past I will save it until nearer the next AGM.

I am sure it would be widely appreciated if the draw for this Sunday could be posted as soon as possible. I suggested last year that the draw should always happen at least a week in advance. I cannot think why this is so difficult to organise?
