Borrowing this one from Mike, a few adults have asked about having training days like we do for Juniors, these would not be as formal as, say the Aagaard Lectures. Mike's idea is to use 5 strong players during the day who would each cover a topic

Could I suggest the following structure

Training Allegro
20 minutes per player per game. Entry fee £20. 1st prize £60 others according to entry.
Round 1 10.00-10.40
Training Session 1 10.45-11.25
Round 2 11.30-12.10
TS 2 12.55-13.45
Lunch 13.50-14.25
Round 3 14.30-15.10
TS 3 15.15-15.55
Rd 4 16.00-16.40
TS 4 16.45-16.25
Rd 5 16.30-17.10
TS 5 and prize giving 17.15-18.00

A busy day but you could take a bye or miss a training session. Training sessions could be on a particular opening which could then be played in the next round! Just some ideas to start the ball rolling.

Alex,
I would agree with almost all of what you said in your post but for one small thing and that is the idea of specific openings I am not convinced of its practicality as each player has different styles of play.

Steven makes a salient point.

Though the whole bye/session would probably get around this? e.g. session which you feel might not be helpful to you/not fit style/taste? then take the bye in that session. surely a wide enough variety could be selected for an inclusive format to be arrived at?

Unfortunately depending on times/dates, being in Hull makes attendance -regardless of potential benefits- tricky. Rolling Eyes

Graeme,

"Hull (the seventh circle)"

..... Is that a Michael de la Maza (400 points in 400 days) reference Question

If so are you doing the 7 circles?
& if so again on what set of tactics?

Be interested to know how you are getting on if you are trying that approach.

Paul

nope. its a play on the seventh circle of hell -from Dante's Inferno http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_circle_of_hell#The_Circles_of_Hell.

its in jest of course, thus far Hull has been nothing but utterly pleasant -haven't started the work yet of course but....

Aaah,

I see Graeme.
No worries.
Shows the level of my non-chess culture Sad

I have two friends who lived in Hessle for about 3 years and moved back up last Nov. Visited the City quite a few times to see them. One was a chemist with Reckitt Benckiser and his wife worked as a School Teacher.... think the latter is your line. Let me know if there is anything she can help/advise you with.

Regards
Paul
