A disappointing 4.5 / 19 in Round 8
Highlight of yeterday was Fergus's face after scoring his 4th win

Hoping for a better result today - play today starts 2 hours earlier than the first 8 rounds

Surely not, I mean we were going to have people coming back with no points if I remember correctly? I seem to remember it being said that "too many kids are not ready for International tournaments, on which we spend heavily"

I trust this has now well and truly been put to bed, especially as our qualifiers from the Girls event this year did quite well! Both Leora and Helen performed well outside their grade and gave performances that they can be rightly proud of. We have had some remarkable results and when they start playing on the adult circuit (for the younger juniors), we are going to see some nice upsets:-)

Well done to our Juniors this year, lets hope they, their parents, their coaches and all the other juniors use this as inspiration of what they can achieve.

If I don't get around to expressing it personally to all tonight. This has been a tremendous group of 31 people to share 12 days with. All have contributed to the success of the trip in thier own way

Much of the The group dynamics worked through the personalities involved and the specialist skills brought in by so many. I mention no names but each party on a trip like this should have a skilled coach, a cameraman, a journalist for the blog, several Chess PC experts, some older players willing and able to assist the younger ones, and an expert at complaining about poor service - I mention no names. We did lack a fluent Italian speaker - multi confusioni tutti day. but we coped, when in doubt SHOUT.

The stats I mention are as follows

Ref percentage scores in Euroyouth teams

2006 34.2 %
2007 28.6 %
2008 29.4 %
2009 37.4%

half a point more and we would have scored 50% over the last 4 rounds.

Fantastic performance this year of which all involved can rightly be proud.

As a mere detail.

The 2007 % score was just over 43%

Only 4 played though so to have scored such a strong percentage with 19 playing can only be good for the junior game and for the whole game in Scotland.
