What is the definition for the U14/U12 catagories? Is it J14 /J12 and under or J13/J11 and under?

U14 is under 14 on 1 Jan 2009.

Given that the event is in Glasgow this year, and that there may be players from Hamilton Chess Club playing in the tournament, I feel some responsibility for helping coach the team. If there are any training sessions being organised then I would be willing to help.

Andy,

a kind offer and much appreciated. No training days are planned in the immediate future - busy time of the year for me. Would you be available on (some) club nights at Hamilton when there is no match on?

Actually, I don't mind which club or house training is at.
Central glasgow is more covenient. I only go to hamilton for matches. Hamilton closes in the summer for bowling
Perhaps if the teams were picked early then the players could be asked what sort of coaching they wish and then something could be arranged on suitable days.

Andy,
thanks again,

In general terms I believe that to improve rapidly and to achieve international success juniors nearly always require help from strong adults players or junior friendly chess clubs.

I have contacted the local players most likely to be selected for the July events to seek their input and preferred venues. I will be in touch by private e mail later.

Phil

For Glasgow events, my house is too small, but there is a country house near me (Overtoun House) where the owner approached me today and said I could use the premises for chess events. Worth considering.

What would the Glasgow players want ? The Karolyi lectures will be excellent but at £50 and the Glasgow -Edinburgh train fares rising above £20 per day, the cost could rise to three figures.

I will not charge for training. Its just that I see that with the events being held in Scotland, there is an excellent chance for the teams to do really well with the right preparation.

Do juniors want a (a) clock simul (b) lecture (c) going over their games (d) endgame practice (e) consultation game (f) training tournament between themselves or what ?

Andy,

I will be back with a reply to your questions soon.

Everyone else.,

In connection with Glorney training there is an opportunity for the main candidates for selection to attend free of charge (actually via my IJD budget) the Tibor Karolyi seminar in Edinburgh on Feb 27 - March 1

Does anyone have contect details for Daniel Maxwell and Adam Bremner ?

Out of curiosity, who are the other members of this junior board? I had a look for the information on the website, but apologies if I've missed something.

Hugh,

Junior Board is as per the constitution. There are 3 CS Directors on (Jacqui, Phil and Myself) and two others (Derek Mills and Mike Hanley)
