In an attempt to support and motivate secondary school players I have great pleasure in announcing that cash prizes will be introduced for the top section of the 2009 Chess For Kicks Final.
First £200
Second £150
Third £100
Fourth £50
No decision has yet been taken about cash prizes for the other 3 sections.
As in previous years all entrants have to qualify through a CFK qualifier. This season the number of qualifiers in each section will be.
Secondary open 2
S1-S3 3
P7 4
P5 4

Let's hope that's enough to persuade some of our young mercenaries to get out of their beds!
On a serious note, it's been clear for quite a few years now that our top juniors don't like playing against each other in graded games. I don't blame them - as a person, I understand their point of view, even if (in my official capacity) I find it a bit exasperating. But I can't help wondering whether, by placing a high value on friendship, they are rejecting the possibility of ever becoming GMs. If they are, I'm not saying they are making the wrong choice - but other people may think our juniors are indeed making the wrong choice, and maybe that is a topic that is worth debating on the notice board. |

Are these prize funds from a new sponsor?

No, not from a new sponsor.
Purely an internal SJC matter and nothing to do with my role as IJD or the internal finances of Chess Sxcotland.
Isn't a conflict of interests a wonderful thing? |
