It might be useful to start a debate now about the voting arrangements for next year's POY. Please use this thread to share your ideas/views/comments.

To set the ball rolling, possible changes which we should be thinking about include:-

(1) Should nominations only be accepted where the person being nominated has given prior approval to his/her name going forward into the voting stage?

(2) After the nominations phase has been completed, should there be any restriction on adding yet further names after the voting stage has commenced? For example, should additional names be added only if they have the support of, say, four members?

POY voting is owned by members so please share your views on how it should be run/changed in the future.

Personally I believe that there should be a period of closed nominations and not the usual nonsense whereby its fastest nomination first. There should be a two week window to nominate someone to the Membership Secretary and the whole list of nominations should be presented to the Members by email and then they can vote based on that list. Once submitted there can be no additions to this list in my view.

I am not in favour of requiring too many nominations to make it onto the ballot. The more the merrier I say.

Also why is this award called Player of the Year as in a couple of instances a player hasn't actually won it. Or let me rephrase, you can win this award without playing at the board in that season. Ridiculous!

As someone who usually doesn't vote in the POY award as I find the whole concept flawed particularly due to the above whereby you dont need to play to win it Confused I think this award either needs renamed or the requirements need to rewritten as in its current form it is a massive contradiction.

I agree with David. For various reasons the system does seem flawed at the moment.

Better to have a spell where people can nominate, and then when that is closed the voting starts on the nominations. The current method is like having a new party add their name to the ballot papers at 1pm on an election day.
