Then provided Alan does not get drawn against Pin 94 or below for the last 2 rounds and lose, then regardless of the results, he has achieved his third IM norm!!!
Not even going to try and work out what he needs for his second GM norm until after today. I think a draw keeps him on track.
Any resident bookies out there want to give me odds on Alan becoming our next GM! |

Now this has to be a 'large' tournament.
Alan is competing in the Open A event, which features no less than 50 GMs, of whom Alan has played 5, scoring 3/5.
There are four more events down to the Open E (under 1800) tournament, with a combined entry of 1193! There are 9 Scots playing, compared to the 3 Scots in the British Championship.
Mind you, with the entry fee for the British being 200 quid, and it being in Sheffield, I think I know which I would choose were I anywhere near good enough. |

For IM norm, Alan can lose tomorrow and sat provided he is not drawn below pin 66
If he draws, then he has the third IM norm
For a GM norm Alan needs 1.5 v tomorrows opponent and pin 14 and above
or 2 wins
2 wins also brings Alan agonisingly short of the IM title. his grade would be 2394!
It is going to happen! |

It's inevitable that if Alan keeps performing as he has been then he will become an IM, and probably a GM. |

Alan has drawn today. Has now scored 5/8 including 5 GMs and 2 IMs.
According to Admin he now has his 3rd IM norm. |

I think that is correct Alan already racked up IM norm. He has to play at least a 2046 tomorrow lose and would still get it. Well done!
A GM norm he needs a 2554 opp and a win. |

Draw now up. Alan has black against a 2454 IM. |

Wouldn't any opponent rated less than 2050 be uprated to 2050 for IM norm purposed? (Trying to understand the rules )
It's a moot point, as Alan has IM Petr Neuman (CZE, 2454) with black.
So commiserations on the lack of GM norm opportunity, but well done on the IM norm |
