Where someone was selected to represent their country in a FIDE tournament, in the past, this was paid by CS.

However in recent years this practice has been stopped as funds were diverted to e.g. the Olympiad.

At the recent council meeting it was decided that it should be re-introduced, especially given the outstanding performances of e.g. Alan Tate & Craig Pritchett.

There has been no money allocated for this for 2011-12 (1 May - 30 April) but would anyone who is selected for an adult tournament let me know the entry fee paid and it will be reimbursed at year-end if funds available.

For 2012-13 these fees (estimated at £750 per year ) will be put in the budget

This is a good place to continue our merry discussion about money!
Look at this tournament: http://www.e2e4.org.uk/sunningdale/May2011/index.htm look at the prize money & the fact that women get in for free, not just titled players !!!
i was talking to a youngster about the days when the Scottish opens were strong & well populated - he was then in his nappies! I once won £ 100 GRADING PRIZE in a Glasgow open. I was lucky to win my last round, but you know I'm not the best of players...
Today the opens have dwindled to practically being nonexistent since its easier for the average major player to win a good prize in the major than it is to get anywhere near a grading prize in the open.
I'm glad that the EASTWOOD ALLEGRO gives a better prize in the open than in the other sections.

the simple answer is getting sponsorship. However chess and the people who run it appear not to be able to get much in the way of sponsorship. Is this true or have I just not noticed, please advise. Pat.

e2e4's and the 4NCL's financial models are very different from most other events. As result we are both able to offer reasonably decent prize money (in the 4NCL's case £10,000+, although granted this is over five weekends).
