Its not a difficult one! Wink

I believe in the basic principle that number of entries must determine prize money.

Incentivise improvement.

I mean, not to a ridiculous extent or anything, and if there's a Minor with 57 entrants and an Open with 14 then it's probably best to have a wee tweak.

I play in tournaments for the love of chess, but better prize money in the Open can sometimes attract GMs & IMs which is desirable.

I voted for "Higher the section the higher the absolute prize value?"... but within reason.

Is this poll going to be conducted on a first past the post, av or proportional representation basis? I take it one of our future MSP's will be dealing with this. I just hope he will be representing Scotland's party once he has finished his political studies at Edinburgh University!

Robin.

Answering this doubtless entirely serious question: well, we're only looking to 'elect' one answer, so no PR. I'd go with FPTP, mostly because the noticeboard doesn't seem to have a facility for ranking options in order of preference. Given that we've got an absolute majority for one option at the moment, the short answer is 'it doesn't matter' though.

But you're not ruling it out? Cool

I would be interested to hear your view on Scottish Independence.

I can imagine circumstances in which I'd support independence, mostly involving the Westminster government getting even worse, but at the moment I'd vote no.

It could work, I suppose, but I don't really see the need (we get enough autonomy under devolution, and that's only going to increase, to be sheltered from the impact of the worse coalition polices anyway), and it would be a bit of a pain to disentangle the UK in practice.

Surprisingly, I actually agree with you. Razz (That has to be a first)

For me it comes down to the simple question in practice of do we put more in than we get out. I am yet to be convinced but I look forward to the arguments being set out in 3 years time ish...

On another point, having greater control over taxation in Scotland is a must for the Scottish Government in my view. I don't like the block grant its like being given pocket money.
