Best performing junior – Iain Fraser Cup
All juniors, under 17, are eligible for the Best performing junior prizes, regardless of grade or section.
The positions in this competition will be decided by subtracting a player’s live grade (as at the start of the event) from their grading performance for the congress.
The best performing junior leaderboard will be on display from at least the end of round 3 onwards.
Donations from Phyllis Anderson of Arc Training, Iain Fraser (Prestwick chess club), Robin Moore and Stephen Taylor (both Greenwood chess club) towards the Junior Competition means that there will be the following prizes to be won.
1st Place – Ian Fraser Cup (to be held for 1 year), gold medal and cash prize
2nd Place – Silver medal and cash prize
3rd Place – Bronze medal and cash prize
The cash prize amounts will be decided once the tournament has started. The minimum total amount of the cash prizes for this competition will be no less than £120. |

Note to Phil Thomas and Robin Moore – You should be able to work out the possibility of whether you’ll be playing each other or not. Although, nothing is certain in life. |
With those 10 byes and 31 grades I calculate that I am due to play Robin. But I guess only a 50% chance that we actually play. Colour are of course not predictable.
Congratulation David on getting entries up to 90, numbers are now well into impressive territory with a new adjective needed if you get to 100. Suggestions anyone?
I like those rules for the junior prizes. Giant killer prizes typically and predictably go a junior with massive grade rise achieved before the event. Your rules give all juniors a similar chance of winning. |

Please Phil, no talk of Giants or Giant Killing. Let me be quite clear we do NOT eat strangers nor do we kill Giants in this neck of the woods. However, I will need to check what phase the moon will be in over the weekend and there will probably be more hobgoblins and witches than usual out in Ayr and Prestwick on Friday night. |

I will accept entries at East Kilbride tomorrow, by e-mail until 10am Friday morning and by leaving a message on my answer machine before 10pm tomorrow night, with no late fee. I’m hoping to get to the 100 mark. |

Yes, I like this method of deciding junior prize winners too (I had nothing to do with choosing the guidelines btw). When I first saw it I thought "live grades", what's going on here? When I started checking through most of the juniors I realised that by using their live grades most of them, to use a racing term, were exposed and their true dramatically improving ability was clear to all thanks to the new grading database. This prizewinning deciding system will find out who has improved again over and above their live grade.
Robin. |
