I have been persuaded to extend the Closing Date for Entries to the 4th East Kilbride Weekly Open by one day, due to the Easter Weekend falling so close to the tournament.

Entries will now be accepted up until 10pm tonight, the 27th April 2011. Under no circumstances will entries be accepted beyond this deadline.

With 57 entrants, entered so far, we have a very limited number of only 7 places left in the tournament.

Surprisingly, we still do not have any representatives this year from the following, fairly local surrounding clubs, such as, Cathcart, Glasgow Montrose, Kilmarnock, Phones and Prestwick, all of which have had players enter E.K. Tournaments in the past.

So why don't you join us at Scotland's most popular Weekly Open in one of Scotland's best, modern and disabled friendly chess venues, complete with Free Parking and Free Tea & Coffee. We will even give you a free biscuit to dook in your tea. Or a free can of soft drink or bottle of water for juniors.

All for a very reasonable entry fee for five weekly rounds, of only £15 or £13 for CS members, Juniors, and the Unwaged.

Contact me today, until the 10pm Deadline at j.dykes@blueyonder.co.uk or by phoning 01355 610170

Look forward to seeing you all at the Open, tomorrow night.

John Dykes
Tournament Director

As there are from time to time an odd number of players in a round at a tournament, It may be of interest to anyone who cannot commit to play in the full tournament but wishes to show up at the start of a round to watch. To put themselves forward to Andy Howie, the Arbiter, to offer to play any opponent who could be getting a Point Bye, due to there being an odd number.

This is on the understanding that the extra Tournament player wishes to play a graded friendly game in addition to the Tournament Point he/she already gets in the bye.

If more than one visitor, puts themselves forward, then the person with the closest grading to the Tournament player, shall be matched with the extra tournament player in the graded friendly, should there be an odd tournament player looking for a game.

If on the other hand you do want to enter the full tournament then contact me at j.dykes@blueyonder.ci.uk or phone me on 01355 610170

Entrants 57

Places left 7

Less than 5 hours to go to the 10pm (27th April) deadline for entering .

Thanks for reading these posts.

Can I just remind all entrants to the E.K. Open, that if you are more than 30 minutes late, after the 7.45pm start, you will default the game, as is now the standard rule.

I would normally remind people at this stage that the Entity List is constantly being updated over on the Tournament Chat page, however I have been left here, sitting beside the computer & phone like a wee night watchman waiting on something happening.

Come on, I canny be the only disorganised chess player that leaves things to the last moment. You now have less than an hour and a half before the 10pm deadline (forget what the CS clock reads).

I have extended the entry closing date to accommodate, all the type of chess players who do their last minute shopping on Christmas Eve at the Glasgow Barras.

We have 57 entries with 7 places still to fill, but I am not hard to please, I will settle for another three entries to bring it up to last year's 60 entries.
If you are drawn against me I shall even let you win (well why not everybody else wins against me nowadays).

So as BT used to say it is good to talk, so phone in your entry on 01355 610170 or email me at j.dykes@blueyonder.co.uk

P.S. If any non E.K. chess club entrants, who have played in the previous E.K. Tournament's want to endorse the tournament, please feel free, to chip in.

Cheers
John Dykes
Tournament Director.

We have just received our 58th and last entry to this year's E.K. Weekly Open.

The latest entry is Jan Van Heese, LG 804, Hamilton cc.

I, as the Tournamet Director have now closed the entry list for this year's 4th East Kilbride Weekly Open, at a very credible 58 entrants.

No further person will have the aurhority to enter the tournament, nor has anyone, the authority to let them enter the tournament, as they will not have the approval of the Tournamet Director and their games will not be recognised, or count for grading purposes.

I would like to thank all the entrants and also for the back up of Andy Howie, the Tournament Arbiter, Tom Brisbane, the Tournament Treasurer and Assistant Tournament Director, Jim Johnston the E.K. Chess Club Web Master (and my spelling checker) and Paul Denham, the E.K. Club Secretary for collecting and returning the Chess Suppliers equipment, kindly lent to us by Peter & Anne Woods of Chess Suppliers, who will have a stall at the tournament in the last round on the 2nd of June.

Sorry, P.S. Thanks also to Michael Hanley of Hamilton Chess club for his help and support.

The full list of entries can be found on the CS Tournament Page. and at http://ekchess.org.uk/

Andy Howie is (and probably has already) putting up, the first round draw on both the CS website and the E.K. Club website, at http://ekchess.org.uk/

I would also like to thank all the E.K. chess club players (and hopefully some tournament entrants) who shall turn up at 7pm to set everything out (and there is a lot of equipment to be set up in 45m for 58 entrants), at the tournament.

Thanks also to everyone who has bothered to look at our Tournament information.

If anyone has any problem or questions, the first port of call is myself, JohnDykes, Tournament Direstor. Sadly even, some experienced people do not even bother to do that.

In the immortal words of Porky Pig, "That's All Folks" .

Cheers
John Dykes
Tournament Director
