It has been decided, in the current economic situation, that to run the Scottish Championship with an acceptable level of participation of the top players is not a feasible option. It has therefore been decided that in future a 9 round Championship will only be held in odd numbered years.

In the even numbered years the title of Scottish Champion will be awarded to the highest placed qualifier in the Scottish Weekend Open.

This decision has been taken with a great deal of regret and will continue until significant sponsorship is found.

There's a very good article in today's Scotsman about the Edinburgh Underground.

This is terrible news Crying or Very sad A Scottish champion based on the vagaries of a weekend open is a pretty dismal proposition.

What sort of money are we talking about per year to hold a 'decent' championship?

EDIT: Have I just been 'April Fool-ed'? (I hope so! Embarassed )

I can live with a weekend Scottish champion but this edinburgh underground sounds like a great place.

They had stations called the "honest lad" , "milne's bar" , "the enlightenment " , "holy corner" and "ice factory".

What happened to the large ice plant that employed 100 people ? Sounds a good idea in the summer. That rivals the old Singer's factory we had over here in Glasgow in those days
