The venue is booked and the dates are set. The congress will take place from the 13th to the 15th May 2011 in the Aviator Suite at Prestwick International Airport.
The main suite has ample room for the players. It also benefits from having its own separate reception/lounge, as you enter, which is ideal for the book stall, notice board and analysis area.
The location is pretty good too for transport and for accommodation nearby. The airport benefits from its own train station, which is served by the main Glasgow Central to Ayr line with trains running every half hour. There are also a number of express bus services from Glasgow which stop at the airport and the airport is well linked by road with the M77/A77 running closed by. As for accommodation, there is a wealth of choice very nearby from budget to luxury.
I'm hoping to get further details and entry forms posted on the Chess Scotland Calendar very soon. |

Entry forms are now available on the new website at www.ayrshirechesscongress.co.uk and on the Chess Scotland Calendar. The congress is also advertised on the Irish Chess Union website and the old congress website had 64 visits from Ireland in the first 24 hours after it was advertised.
This month I'm going to try to get the congress advertised on other national chess websites, whose countries have flights which go to Prestwick.
To date the old site has had 172 unique visitors from the UK and 76 from Ireland. There have also been visitors from Germany and Sweden. Dublin tops the cities list with 55, Glasgow 41 and in third Edinburgh with 28. Cork, Belfast and Birmingham also feature. |
