November 2008:

Scottish Championship in Grand Prix

All sections of the Scottish Championship will now count as the first AND last event of the Grand Prix.

Therefore the 2009 Scottish Championships in Edinburgh will count for Grand Prix purposes as the final event of the current 2008-2009 season and also as the first event of the 2009-2010 season.

The idea is to boost the status of our flagship event and make the event a fitting climax for GP contenders who will hopefully be encouraged to play.

The event will continue to be graded only once of course.

************

Junior Grand Prix:

The definition of an "adult" event is being changed.

Previously this was the wording.
"An "adult" event is one in which adults or juniors may participate - a "junior" event is exclusively junior. Juniors 1350 and above can only gain points from adult events."

However recently we have had a few events where you can get just one adult in an otherwise junior event and it makes the whole event a double point multiple ie twice as valuable as most junior events.

So now we change this to be:

A junior event for GP purposes is classed as a tournament where 75% of the players are J16 or younger AND under 1350. Otherwise an event will be classed as "adult" event for GP purposes. Juniors 1350 and above can only gain GP points from "adult" events.

What would happen if an adult enters an event which turns out to be a junior event due to the entrants.

For example if I travel to Perth to play in the funday and find that 76% if the players are J16.

If i am able to win or draw some game against all these juniors

I am assuming I will not get any GP points?

Stuart - you are correct.

It could mean by the composition of the event you wont get any GP points even if you score 50% or more.

Similarly it was already the case since new GP regulations in 2004 that a junior of 1350 if he played in any all junior event could not score any GP points regardless of their score.

However the current anomoly of just one adult makes a junior event twice as valuable had to be addressed.

Feel free to make suggestions for other ways to address it - these rules can evolve.
