I didn't get around to mentioning this at the agm in August. It is my firmly held view that one of the targets of the IJD should be to help and encourage and inspire those selected for representative events to become stronger players.

With chess this is, of course, measurable through the grading system.

Of 20 players who travelled to Liverpool in July every single player has increased his/her grade since then. Not just that, the average increase has been 87 points in 4 months. And that before anyone benifits from the 200 up rule

So congratulations all round to those 20 juniors plus the selectors for that event (not me) and to the accompanying adults and coaches and to all those adults who have coached at home or in chess clubs.

Like so many areas hard work and organisation brings its rewards,
very well done to all.
