Dear all,

I have been attempting to put together a squad to represent Scotland at the above event. The WYCC will take place from 17th - 27th November 2011 at Caldas Novas in Goias state Brazil. Link to website for the event
http://www.wycc2011.com/

Players have been invited at all the under 14 age groups upwards and Scotland will have a number of representatives in the older age groups.

I am myself married to a Brazilian and speak the language with a reasonable ability and have travelled quite extensively within Brazil previously.

This is an expensive event to participate in but chaperoned players travelling with Chess Scotland chaperone, should be able to participate for just under £1000 if a 1st choice and just under £1500 if they are an additional player.

I havn't invited players at younger age groups as of yet but I now wish to give the opportunity to parents of talented youngsters at younger agegroups to express an interest for their children to represent Scotland. Their child should be in the top 3 on the live grade grading list for their age group.
I will accept expressions of interest from parents until 29th August. Apologies that is only 8 days but first priority was given to players at older agegroups who can participate at more reasonable costs.

Younger agegroup players need to be chaperoned by a parent or older relative and as such costs are likely to be around £2500 for a 1st choice player. This to me is a prohibitive cost but there may be a parent who wishes their child to have the opportunity to represent their country. If I have expressions of interest from more than 1 player at an agegroup and they are both within the top 3 on the live grade grading list then there will be a selection process.

The agegroups in question are.
Under 8 boys, Under 10 boys, Under 12 boys, under 10 girls and under 12 girls. At present I don't consider there is a strong enough under 8 girl player to participate.

Expressions of interest from those who would definitely commit to paying the costs for their child to participate and have them chaperoned by an older relative can be made to me at e-mail address gusmacw@yahoo.co.uk or telephone number 01224483092

You may also contact Phil Thomas the outgoing International Junior Director as he will continue to advise me on arrangements until Scotland's participation at this tournament is complete.

yours sincerely,

Angus McDonald
