I was sent my password in plaintext in an email when I set it up just now. Does this mean that the site isn't encrypting passwords?

I was also able to change my address etc details without being asked to re-enter my password.

These are probably things to think about.

Hi Heather

The passwords are all encrypted on the database. The initial password can be delivered because it is known initially by the system but is then encrypted before it is written online.

You are required to insert your password before creating a new password but not when altering other details. I know that there are potential security breach opportunities with this method but given the potential 'gain' for a hacker the effort wouldn't be worth it and it would still be very difficult to achieve. The worst case scenario is that someone manages to access the live grades when they shouldn't. No credit card details or any financially beneficial opportunities are present so an attempt to hack is highly unlikely.

Hopefully this alleviates any concerns, please ask away if you have any more.

A

Thanks for a quick reply - have sent a PM to clarify how I set my account up.

Wow! That was quick. I see the link to the Chess Scotland History archive has been added already, just a few hours after I mentioned it! Very Happy

The new site looks excellent, well done. It will take a little time to become used to it and find our way around but it's the same with anything new.

I had one little problem with the calendar - when I clicked the link to the Lanark Open web site/entry form I arrived at the Scottish Championship details. We may be ambitious but that isn't yet on our horizon!

Thanks Ian. Has this now been fixed? I made some changes but I'm not sure that I got the right event.

Quite a few events have had some issues like this but I have made some changes so hopefully it should be resolved.

The link (from the Inaugural Lanark Open item in the calendar for August) still points to the 118th Scottish Chess Championships details rather than to ours.

Sadly the West of Scotland entrants list, which was correct last night, is now showing the entrants for Prestwick.

New website looks great! The increased player stats are particularly revealing. I thought I was far more sucessful with White than Black but that's not the reality.
A request for more seasons data has been answered above. I hope a link to Alan McGowan's History section will also eventually be restored.
I suppose I miss the grinning mugshots which headed the previous version but overall this new version is a tremendous improvement.

I thought last night that I might be the only player to score a higher percentage of wins with black than with white.

Not so at all. Apart from Mel there is an example closer to home - Son No. 2 (Daniel) also has more black wins than white.

I had a meeting with Dick Heathwood yesterday to show him how to operate the controls that he needs so he has been going through the calendar making sure the events are accurate. Very Happy

Let me know if you spot anything else. Cool

I think there is an error in the grading database....

My grade has gone up? I thought Arbiters were not allowed to do that Laughing

The Search Players module has now been updated. Changes as follows:

1. Filtering for players with status J9 and younger is now possible.
2. Filtering by status J?? is now possible.
3. Filtering out Visitors is now possible.
4. Including/Excluding ungraded players from results is now possible.
5. During a ‘Search’ inactive players now appear with status ‘Inactive’ instead of the status they had when they went inactive.

Please advise if you spot any problems or if there are any other upgrades to the above that you think I should implement.

A Cool

Looks good. I like the pie charts and the best/worst results summary! One suggestion, it would be good to view the best / worst results plus the black / white performance pie charts for other players too. Is there a reason this has been omitted or can it be added?

Issues

1. Information on top right is hidden - can only see my games , my stats
2. Agree with Joe,as an international selector - I miss the old functionality of looking at the top 100 active players in Scotland (Also the club filter helped me when I was trying to select/fiddle the hamilton board order !).
The junior filter also helped for their selections. Can we have this back please - don't want to overlook anyone
