This will take place in Heraklion, Greece from 2nd -12th November 2011.

Last time we struggled to get 4 players so I am setting the ball rolling early on this.

I would like to send a 5 man squad and I expect to have £1500 CS budget. Expected cost per player is 900 - 1500/5 = £600

Players who wish selected please contact me by 1st June 2011.

Does that expected cost per player include accommodation and flights?

The total cost last time for me (no CS subsidy) was about £200 for flights, £700 for 10 nights full board at designated hotels and about £50 spending money, so about £950 - enough to put most people off playing.

However if I draw to people's attention the likely £300 subsidy now then people might wish to spend their limited budgets on this tournament rather than a FIDE open in the summer.

I shall also keep people informed of interest to let them now whether they are likely to be picked.

I can play (rated 2224/2309) and I have interest from a 1700 rated player too but it would be good if players better than us would play instead.

There are players who maybe just missed out on the Olympiad who might want to play

I am getting quite a bit of interest from players - much much more than last time - looks as though I might not make the team - might have to concentrate on my actuary career this year - keep them coming in - wish we had more money in CS funds for other tournaments too !!

Can anyone tell me the current norm situation ? Can you get an IM/GM norm with 7 or 8 games ? This tournament is 9 rounds and we have to decide whether to send 4 or 5 players

Looks like you only need 7 games for a norm: I have a preference then for a 5 man squad

1.4 The GM, IM, WGM, WIM titles can also be gained by achieving norms in internationally rated tournaments played according to the following regulations.

1.41 The number of games
1.41a The player must play at least 9 games, however
1.41b Only 7 games are required for 7 round Continental and World Team Championships.
Only 7 games are required for 8 or 9 round Continental and World Team
Championships.
Only 8 games are required for World Cup or Women World Championship. For the World Cup
and Women’s World Championship these 8 game norms count as if 9 games.

Council has now approved CS grant of £1500. No word yet from organisers of their costs. Expect net cost per player of £1000-300 = £700 .

The following players have given a firm commitment to play:Alan Tate, Andrew Muir, Chris Morrison, Andrew McClement, Martin Mitchell, Paul Roberts.

If anyone else wishes to commit to play please let me know by June 1st
