We arrived safely, all be it over an hour late & got a Scottish welcome - it was tipping it down. After a quick dumping of luggage off the coach into one of the flats we reboarded the coach & got dropped off at the local 'Oriental Buffet'.
Well done Lisa (Kai's Mum) who secured the booking. Just the ticket for a hoard of hungry gannets. Both courses went down well & some individuals were seen going for 3, 4, 5, 6, top up servings on both courses.
In doing our own thing we mssed out on the hosts 'free' buffet but sandwiches etc didnt compare to a hot meal to eat after our lengthy journey. Getting back to campus in the pouring rain was solved by Phil & Matthew doing a shuttle service. After getting luggage to correct flats everyone got settled down to a reasonably early night.
The accommodation is at the far northern end of campus up steep hills & for those of you that know me well, they nor the two flights of stairs to access my ground floor flat were not appreciated. Thank goodness we have a car on site!!
Wed
We woke to a bright sunny day & fairly warm. Breakfast was served down dales in the Stilts dining hall & then whilst the troops went off to their first match the adults in the group helped get the Tesco order divvied out to each flat ready for lunch. The rain is back!

Wednesday PM games finished by 7pm & it was straight down the hills & hundreds (no I am not exagerating) of steps down to th main street to catch the coach being provided by the hosts as we had accepted their invitation to go with the teams to McD's & bowling. When we arrived at the showcase cinema complex we were then advised we had to sort everything ourselves as although a cheaper price had been negotiated for the bowling there were not any lanes available & McD's was heaving so no way were we going to get food fron there.
We eventually were allocated only 4 lanes at 8.30. Food had been ordered at the Bowlplex food bar & Sarah & Jordan did us proud getting us all fed & watered in good time. Bowling was rushed as the coach was leaving at 9.45pm. However. I think a good time was had by all with some impressive scores in the bowling with top score of 134 with many close behind.
We got back to cell block H & everyone quickly settled in for the night with the youngsters to bed & the older guys preparing for Thursdays games.
NB: our block of flats are Block H |

According to Matthew Turner on the English Chess Forum after yesterday's games:
"There is a tie for the lead in the Faber. England drew all three games against Ireland and are now level with Scotland. England will have the advantage of White on odd boards when the teams meet in the final round."
Edit: Misread the am/pm time on Matthew's post and have edited the 1st sentence accordingly. _________________ "Heather's clever book". As plugged* by the Rampant Chess Team. |

Faber girls need 1.5points in last round to retian title
Glorney still have a chance but need a 5-0 win against Wales & I think I heard right that they also need England to beat Ireland 3-2 |

Thursday we woke to glorious sunshine & after brekkie headed for the playing venue - this was my first visit & I hadnt missed anything. Each country had been allocated a room for training & analysis which was good but very stuffy.
U14's played Engand for the first time & got slaughtered but both U14 & U12 teams are heavily outgraded & the U12 have actually out performed their projected scores.
After the afternoon round, which again wasnt good for the youngsters, we headed down in the rain that had returned the many steps & hills to catch our bus from Fishers Tours, Dundee & driver Jim who had kindly offered to pck us up & take to the local Wetherspoons a couple of miles away. It was a good job we had pre ordered as it is a popular venue! We were fed & watered & delivered back to base by 9pm. The teams split up into allocated flat kitchens for brief coaching session before bed.
Oh & strawberries & ice cream |

Friday morning & everyone seems fired up for a good days chess, except me who decided the steps had won this morning coz I wasnt willing to attack them just yet today.
Glorney & U14's were facing England again & the U14 suffered a heavy defeat again but Daniel did manage to get a draw so it wasnt a total whitewash.
Glorney team perfomed well winning 3.5-1.5. This means they are still able to win the Glorney Cup but need a 5-0 win against Wales & also the England v Ireland result to go in our favour.
U12's played Wales this morning 2.5-3.5 with Murad getting a win & bords 2,3,& 4 drawing. They have scored 11.5 so far in the tournament & their projected score was 3 so they have done really well with one match to go.
Faber girls have served us proud & beat Ireland this morning 2.5-.5 so only need to draw this afternoon to retain their title.
Tonight the hosts are organising pizza after prizegiving (we have to pay though!!) & I presume a social gathering but not sure if the Wales team will be there or not as they have not been staying on Campus.
It will then be back to pack ready for morning as the coach is scheduled to leave at 9am. |
