We currently have an even number of entries in the Tournament.
However we have an odd number in Round 1, so why not even it up and join us.
You have up untill midnight to enter, tonight, 28th April 2010.

The 1st Round results and 2nd Round Provisional Draw, are now up on the East Kilbride cc web page and can be seen by Clicking on the "E.K. Weekly Open" on the CS Home Page, under News.
Please remember that any Provisional Draw that is posted, may have to be changed right up to the last minute, if there are call-offs. The Arbiter's decision shall be final.
Please feel free to contribute about the tournament on this page.

Andy,
Great EK Open Round 1 report on http://www.ekchess.org.uk/
and glad you included my photos of the hall near the end of the night... all those top boards still playing when the lower boards had finished.
What's going on there??
The answer is simple and its a pattern repeated throughout the chess world.
Almost all strong players take care over the majority of their moves and taking care takes time ...... many lower rated players don't;

When I looked around the hall on Thurs night ... it was a carbon copy of the picture of the Novice Nook article above.
As Dan says... he looks to see if one of the people he coaches is trying their hardest by the time they used for each move (which he gets them to record each game) and by the total time they have used with his view that if you are trying your hardest then in most games you will use almost all your time
mind you despite this "lecture" from me on players taking their time, it probably makes the last game in Andy's report - Vivek Pathi's win all the more impressive

The final round of the 3rd E.K. Weekly Open Tournament shall take place on Thursday 3rd June. If you were not able to play in this years tournament, please feel free to come and watch some of the excellent final round games that shall be taking place.
Chess Suppliers shall have a book stall all evening and are kindly supplying 2 book prizes for our historical Free Raffle for non prize winning entrants who stay for the prize giving.
1st prize £70 Plus Cup and keep sake trophy
2nd prize £50
3rd prize £30
Under 1550 Grading prize £20
Under 1050 Grading prize £20
Slow Starters Prize £20 (must have had no points in the first two rounds).
Junior prize £20
Top East Kilbride Club Player Cup. (donated by Paul Denham). plus a keepsake trophy.
For the top E.K. club player in the tournament.
