Martin Mitchell leads the Scots challenge with 2/2. He plays David Howell today.

All the other Scots are on 1 (including Andrew Greet) except Jim Macrae and Tom O'Neil who, since we overlook a cricket ground, have as they say failed to trouble the scorers. Hopefully, to use a chess metaphore they will not castle queenside on the charts after todays round (0-0-0).

Reasonable day yesterday for our boys, scoring 50% in total. The majority are outperforming their ratings at this early stage. Smile

(I'm counting Andrew Greet as Scottish since he won Wink )

They may have won, but I looked over the games and their opponents were certainly very co-operative Razz

Since when has Andrew Greet been Scottish? Is it an offiical change of federation?

I think Andrew Greet will be a GM soon. He's better than most other IM's I think. Cool

Happy New Year from a snow dusted Hastings.

News of the first Scottish success. Ian Hope is 1st equal in the Christmas Morning D.

I cannot comment that he may have benefitted from the inflated English grades allowing him entry to this event. Twisted Evil Regardless it is still an excellent performance. Very Happy

Ian also finished 2nd in the afternoon event despite being the second lowest rated.

Excellent performances from Ian, the only Scot I can see in the events other than the Masters. He still has the weekend to go.

Been an 'groundhog' kind of week down in Hastings, the page showing the pairing and results has been out of step all week. It is showing rnd 1 Mon 28th, rnds 2 & 3 Tue 29th, rnds 4 & 5 Thu 31st.

"I cannot comment that he may have benefitted from the inflated English grades"

Perhaps the problem lies with the English grading system ...

Andy (McCulloch),

The problem with the dates for the rounds is that the program defaults to the date that the round was made so unless you remember to change it .......

When you are doing the draw at 9.15, you haven't eaten and Wetherspoons and other eating places close at 10, remembering to alter the date of the round is not a high priority.

Anyone who is annoyed by this can rectify the situation by sending food parcels to Alex McFarlane, c/o Horntye Park Sports Complex, Bohemia Road, Hastings.Alex McFarlane

5/9 for our boys in the Masters yesterday, 6/9 outperforming; nice result for Clement.

No, he's (unofficially) Scottish as long as he's winning - that's how it works. Smile

Alex - chin up, you're doing a grand job - may have to watch the games today since the Fife derby is off Shocked

Yes I do. Despite the lack of food parcels I will tell you.

Martin Mitchell obviously has the best chance. Andrew will need to work his little socks off. Clement has not met the required number of titled players.

HASTINGS MASTERS

Jonathan Hawkins needs 2/2 and 2510 opponent in round 9
Christophe Philippe needs 2/2 and 2444 last round
Simon Ansell needs 2/2 and 2620 last round
IM Norms
Jonathan Hawkins needs ½/2 v 2275
Martin Mitchell needs 1/2 v 2316 or 1½/2 v 1900
Robert Eames needs 1½/2 v 2400
Elias Demac needs 1/2 v 2456 or 1½/2 v 2042
Andrew Green needs 2/2 v 2394
Samuel Franklin needs 2/2 v 2147
James Jackson needs 2/2 v 2180
Peter Williams needs 2/2 v 2271
