Andrew Greet has just lost - GM norm has gone.
Martin Mitchell scores a win - he just needs to play the right opponent tomorrow.
Andrew Green loses as well. But that's two Hastings in a row he has come close. |

Mitchell, Green and Sreeves have given a brilliant account
of themselves and one of them must be in the running for a £200 prize.
The highest placed player who is neither a GM nor IM
Best Relative FIDE Rating performance by a player rated under 2200.
Pity about Andy McGreet, there will other tournaments.
I saw the pictures of Ian Hope the Edinburgh League Sec picking up
his prize money. I'm off to Musselburgh tomorrow to report on the
Muss match v Edin West. I'll help him drink some of it and get a
game of two. |

If you want him to buy you a drink Geoff you'll need to come to Hastings - He's still here. 73 bus from the station. |

Here here - some very good performances and by Martin in particular - typical fearless play with only 1 draw in 8 rounds - well played Sir! |

Martin Mitchell Has been paired with Andrew Martin in the final round - so am I correct in assuming that he now gets his IM norm whatever the outcome of the last round?
If so, congratulations Martin!! _________________ If I have not seen as far as others it's because giants were standing on my shoulders. |

A great performance and thoroughly deserved – an inspiration to the rest of us 1966 born 'juniors' |

Which Martin are you talking about? Martin Mitchelll or Andrew Martin?
As an Arbiter you really should make yourself clear and stop thinking
about where your next hamburger is coming from.
What are you going to do? Award Andrew Martin another IM norm?
Can anyone please confrim that the Muss I v Edin West match is going ahead.
geoffspare@hotmail.com or post on here.
or Tel: 0131 228 8145
(I have a mobile but I don't know what the number is.)
If I go all the way out there and find it's been called off you will
hear me moan about it for years.
Is that what want?
Is that what want?
Because that's what will happen. |

Geoff,
I can confirm that the match in question is going ahead. I am not however sure when. It may not be tonight.
Chess columnists really should learn to ask the exact question they mean and not wander into a daze thinking where their next pint will come from. |

I've had to drop out but there is a replacement for me so, at least as of a few minutes ago, the match is still on for tonight. |

Chess columnists.... I like that, that is going on my next CV.
Cheers.
The Musselburgh bar sells it's pints for £1.75 so you can
fully understand my concern about tonight's match. |

Is anyone watching? The implicit draw offer with 16.Nb5 looks like it has turned out to be no more than a tempo loss. |

Looks better for black, but I don't see why he didn't just play 20... Rec7 instead of Rd7, when it looks a clear edge to black.
Mitchell can play 21.Nb5, which might not be so bad. |
