Opportunities for players to play in Olympiads and all sorts of junior tournaments and things all over the world? |

" and all sorts of junior tournaments and things all over the world?"
Gavin - the last part of this seems pretty vague... can you expand a bit?

For FIDE to treat all member nations and associations equally especially in its implementation of FIDE rules |

Kirsan to resign and events being held where people will actually go to.
Look at the recent World Cup. The press conf was laughable (we probably had more backstage here than they did at the event!) |

Clear enough isn't it? I think we had eight players playing at the world juniors in Turkey just recently, that's a FIDE event.
Not that I've any particular truck to defend FIDE in general, still less Kirsan, but it's a bit of a stretch to say they do "nothing" for us, which I think was the comment that prompted the thread. |

Gavin,
No it wasn't clear enough; "and things all over the world" was about as vague as it gets.
You think wrong. I am too lazy to stretch to anything and did not say they do "nothing" for us.
What prompted the post was that the London Chess Classic has looked very professional and popular.
The World Cup has looked less so and by comparison, FIDE looks out of touch. Indeed they have managed to switch off the world's no1 player of the moment, Magnus Carlsen, to the point where he withdrew from World Championship Cycle due to the many changes Kirsan and co kept making.
It may be fair to imply, that I was hinting at them doing "nothing" without saying "nothing" but I was actually thinking it was worth throwing it out for discussion without me saying one way or other whether FIDE do anything for chess in Scotland.
What I will say is that they could be a whole load more global and professional and organise a stable, consistently structured World Championship from which the game as a whole could benefit immensely.
Much of the damage caused by the breakaway's in the 1990's started with Campo siding with Team Karpov leading to the situation where Kasparov had to try to start a break away.
Whether they do anything or do enough for Chess in Scotland is still open to debate on this thread.

Apologies, should have made that clearer.
I appreciate it wasn't you who said they did "nothing" and I didn't mean even to imply that you think that; someone else did so on another thread, just before you started this one. That was the comment I was referring to. |
