Just a reminder that this season's Central League Allegro tournament takes place this Sunday in Grangemouth.

It's open to anyone (see entry form in the calendar on the CS front page) - with the ongoing postal strikes I recommend entry either by phone to Jim Watson (01324 714314) or by email to me (donald506@btinternet.com).

Up to yesterday we had 25 entries, so I think there's a good chance of beating last year's record of 40. If we get beyond 40 by Friday I'll probably split the tournament into two sections - if I do that, I'll post a notice here to that effect.

Chess Suppliers are bringing a bookstall to the Allegro - so if there are any books or other chess items you need, just phone/email Peter or Anne and they can bring your order along on Sunday.

As at 10:00 pm on Friday 30 October, we have 42 entries for the CL Allegro.

That's not quite enough to have good prize money in two tournaments, especially as the dividing line would be about 1700.

So I've decided to stick with one tournament, but I'll use accelerated pairings for the first two rounds to reduce the risk of mismatches, and I'll have three grading prizes, so that everybody has something to compete for.

At the moment, the prize fund is looking like this:
1st - £100
2nd - £50
3rd - £30
GPs: 3 x £20

But if there are any more entries tomorrow (cut-off ca. 12.00 noon) I should be able to increase some of these amounts.
