....you lot are.

The English Forum covers six pages with 83 posts mostly wishing
their players well in the current European Team Champiomship.

We have 12 posts and 5 of those are posted by the team

The other 7 are me cracking jokes, a 'well done from AWIC, a funny face
from admin and some other guy asking questions about the English team.

Where is the support for the 4 Scots representing their country?

How do you think they feel, marooned in some strange land and logging
on to see if there is any kind of support from home and all they
see is the usual selfish moaning and groaning.

It's not on guys. Come on they are on a pounding to nothing.
A couple of messages from the boys back home will lft them to
unknown glories.

PS: they play Wales next. Not that any of you are in the least bit interested

well they'll feel comforted by the normality of the situation then. if everyone starts going arn't they great...we always knew they were, then they might think something was awry.

All becomes clear! Laughing

seriously though, this work seems to examine and categorise only into two extremes -cheery people are artsy and grumpy people are careful and methodical thinkers.

What about the middle group -the meh community? not cheery but not grumpy -which I would say most chess players I've met would fall into. And also on this work, surely its a spectrum. Even within the one person one can be cheery and grumpy within the same day. Does this tie mood into neural pathways/sites of activity in the brain e.g. Brocha's area ?

an interesting if intended to be funny link Phil. Well done.

Graham,

Article is a journalist's summary of academic work but it seems clear that volunteers for the study were categorised not by what sort of person they inherently are but by the mood they were put in before their test.

Quoting selectively from the BBC article

******************************************************
Next he asked them to take part in a series of tasks, including judging the truth of urban myths and providing eyewitness accounts of events.

Those in a bad mood outperformed those who were jolly - they made fewer mistakes and were better communicators.

****************************************************

So what relevance does this have to readers of this notice board ??

If your working conditions put you into a bad mood, a grumpy mood even, you perform better and the firm prospers.

Firms that prosper survive and grow. If evolutionary principles apply to whole businesses the future at work is grim.

Feeling depressed anyone ?

Yes and hating that my work is going to benefit from my depression. Oh hang on, that thought has just made me more depressed and therefore more productive... what a vicious circle.
