If every adult Chess Scotland member committed to donate just 25p a week to the fund how much would be raised in 1 year? Would banks accept a standing order for such a small amount without charges?

Adam has confirmed for a FIDE tournament it is the £1.50 fee for the CS (or other national members). For graded tournaments it is £6.00 for non-members of the ECF

The organiser of a FIDE rated tournament in England is required by ECF to ensure that all ENG players are members of the ECF.

I think any compensation should be paid by Matthew rather than CS so if they did demand the maximum Matthew would have to pay it rather than CS.

I think any transfer fee is payable to FIDE and is designed to deter players from playing under flags of convenience.
