I've made a provisional booking to hold the promised Members' meeting in Grangemouth on Sunday 28 October (pm) - judging by the CS calendar, that looks like the best date. And while the location isn't great for anyone who has to use public transport, it's easily accessible by car and is just about as central as we can get in Scotland.

I'm going away tomorrow (Monday) for a short holiday (coming back in time for the SNCL next Sunday), and I won't be able to confirm the booking till 17 October. But I thought it was best to let people know now when and where the meeting is likely to be held.

The Members' meeting will be held in the Community Education Unit, Abbot's Road, Grangemouth (same venue as the Team Lightning in December and the East of Scotland in May, and where the National League used to be held) on Sunday 28 October from 13:30 to 17:00.

When I made the provisional booking that date appeared to be clear, but I've subsequently learned that there will be a Junior tournament in Wester Hailes that day. I can still change the date, but the only viable alternatives are 11 and 25 November. I'd prefer to avoid 11 November as it's Remembrance Day, and I certainly don't want to clash with the Carse of Gowrie Allegro on 25 November. At the same time, I suspect that the lack of responses to my earlier message may mean that many CS members who might wish to attend the meeting have not seen that message, so I may have no choice but to postpone it to 11 November. If anyone who wishes to attend has a strong view about the date (for or against 28/10 or 11/11), could they please let me know by next Tuesday (23 October)? In the meantime I'll try to put together an agenda for the meeting (though it doesn't help that I'll be away all weekend at the Dundee Congress).

Donald,
I will have to apologise but I will be in Birmingham for 4NCL duty for the Braille team. I appreciate that it is difficult to find a date that is suitable for all

The members' meeting will NOT now be held this Sunday (28 October): the two CS Directors most heavily involved in the Review will be at the junior tournament being held in Wester Hailes, and due to a combination of factors I didn't give members the notice that I feel should be given, or the amount of information about the matters to be discussed (principally the recommendations, but also aspects of the commissioning of the Review and of the content of the Report) that they deserve.

Unfortunately, the fallback date of 11 November also appears to be unsuitable (partly because of a clash with the 4NCL), so I am left wanting to hold a meeting but unable to find a date to hold it on.

The best options now appear to be either Sunday 16 December (uncomfortably close to Christmas, and possibly at risk from the weather if we get a “traditional” winter this year) or the morning of Sunday 9 December, prior to the Team Lightning Tournament (against that, SJC are holding a tournament that day, and there are CS members who would wish to be both there and at the meeting; and in any case an afternoon meeting is probably better for most people).

My inclination is to go for Sunday 16 December – but if people who want to attend the meeting are against that date, I’m willing to consider any viable alternative.

Over the weekend, I’ll try to get a version of this announcement put on the front page of the CS site.

Ironic isn't it? we are all trying to find a date to talk about a report that tells us that not enough is being organised.

Yet we can't find a free date in the calendar.

Sunday December 9th could be a viable date. True there is a CFK qualifier at Houston that day but Chess Academy Scotland are a big nationwide organisation and despite the majority being male are capable of multi-tasking.
