Hi All
You will have seen my post asking for coaches to come forward for the U21 training day. Although unfortunately to date no coaches etc have expressed an interest I still think I need to go ahead with plans to raise funds to pay towards this weekend.

I will be with my current employer until the end of May before getting redundancy due to job relocation. I have an opportunity of raising funds by sponsorship or similar & they will match what I raise £1 for £1 to a max of £750. We have an opportunity of raising £1500 here (for the record any extra raised to what we need for Sept I will put into International Junior Chess).

However, I need ideas -sensible ones please (& no not a diet - we haven't got that long!!!). Suggestions of what I can do to run for sponsorship from the membership & families. If venue required I have the opportunity at the West of Scotland & a few junior events if reqd. Please get your thinking caps on as I have already ruled out sitting in a bath of anything!!.

If anyone else works for a company that runs a scheme like this maybe they would like to join me.
Regards
JAcqui
PS: Once sorted I will just need you all to kindly to dig deep in your pockets & support me

Hi Jacqui.

How about the following;

1. Sponsored Blitz Marathon - say 8hrs worth of you playing 5 min chess, with suitable no of comfort breaks factored in.

2. Mastermind - 2 mins on a chess topic of your choice, quick break then 2 mins on general knowledge (donations or £X or YYp for every question you get right)

3. Combining the above - tactics solving excercise - how many can you solve right out of 100

Paul

Thanks Paul, yes down these lines.

Someone else I know suggests that as my hobby is card & craft making how about a sponsored challenge to make ??? items in ?hours & then set up a stall the next day to sell the items which will also raise funds.

Keep ideas coming as I could combine a few.
Thanks

Do consider a sponsored bike ride. I've not checked but I'm fairly certain that that the big annual Glasgow-Edinburgh (fun!) bike ride will as usual take place on a Sunday in early mid-September, quite probably the week before the Ayrshire training weekend.

A team, of say 10 chess juniors, using sponsorship forms to raise £s from relations, friends, schools, local business etc, has the potential to raise a lot of money in one go ... while having a great time and showing that chess players are just as "sporty" as anyone.

A big team (the more the better) raising £s for chess like this would pretty certainly also get a spot on radio, which covers this event enthusiastically. TV news and the press, national and local, also usually covers, providing further opportunities for media impact, particularly local press.
