|
|
I was investigating the possibility of holding a FIDE rated swiss later in the year when I realised that there are two weekends free in May/June (other than the Primary Championships). I believe there are chess players who want to improve their FIDE rating and get in shape for the Scottish in July. Tournament should appeal to players who can't afford the time/expense of playing in a full week long event.
Jonathan
===============================================
Format - 8 round FIDE rated swiss over two weekends with a free weekend inbetween plus no round on Friday nights.
Dates = Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May plus Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June.
Times = 10 am to 2 pm and 3pm to 7pm.
Venue - Edinburgh Chess Club.
Time control = 36 in 90 + 30 min quickplay.
Entries open to all but limited to 24 players. Pairings will be accelerated in the early rounds.
Arbiter = Simon Gillam IA
Entry form with further details to appear on line this week once prizes and entry fees confirmed.
Let me know at international@chessscotland.com if you are interested in playing. |

Hopefully everyone will have seen the entry from for this event by now (link on main page calendar). Please note that there is only space for a limited number of players and consider what happened in my house this morning...
THUD!
"eh whassat? sounds like an awful lot of post...surely its not valentines day already?"
Nope, it's entries for the 1st Chess Scotland International Open Chess Challenge - a LOT of entries. Now I know that sometimes players wait to the last minute before entering (not mentioning any names, Alan Tate would kill me if I did) but it looks like that plan would lead to disappointment in this case. If you are interested in playing in this tournament then please do get your entries to me as soon as possible.
Look forward to seeing you there!
Cheers,
Keith |

Not long to wait Andy! If the current rate is maintained Keith will be able to post the full provisional list of 24 entrants this weekend.
I checked with Alex McFarlane; we're way ahead of normal which is great.
To quote from the entry form "...places are limited to 24 players so enter early to avoid disappointment." On reaching the maximum of 24 players we will run a priority reserve list. However I'm told that withdrawals after entry with payment are usually rare. |

Entrants List as of 02 May 2009 ordered by FIDE grade:
Andrew Greet (IM) 2431
Andrew Burnett 2202
Clement Sreeves 1982
Ed Ferry 1962
Chris Sykes 1924
Gavin Saxton 1902
Andrew McClement 1850
John McBride 1803
Ali Roy 1733
Nigel Chapman UG
Andrew McHarg UG
Shivan Murdochy UG
Jonathan Scott UG
Michael Timms UG
The statisticians amongst you will be able to calculate that that makes 14 entrants in the first week which means there are just 10 places remaining. Will we fill all the places by week two? Will we get any more Andrews entering? Watch this space.
Cheers,
Keith |

| I'd enter as my name is also Andy but a) I'm not very good and b) I am at the primary individual on one of the same weekends. |

Quick update, details to follow...
Internet Chess Club will be supporting the 1st Chess Scotland International Open Chess Challenge with 3 free ICC memberships (1x1 year and 2x6 months).
According to ICC "The Internet Chess Club (ICC) is the longest running, most popular, and best place to play chess on the Internet. Nowhere else can you find as many chess enthusiasts ready for a quick round of blitz, a short chat, an impromptu tournament, or simply enjoying the wealth of Chess.FM shows and live event coverage. It is not uncommon to find more than 3,000 chess players hanging out on ICC where more than 100,000 games are played each day." Find out more at www.chessclub.com
Thanks to JBH, Stateside.
I hear rumours of another entry which would mean 6 places remain... |

What about 'lowest placed player with first initial "A"'?
