I'm tickled pink that the Germans sent a girls team to play in the boys section! [we can't even manage to sent one to the girls section, but they did that as well]. And they called it the A team, although the grades of the B team are slightly higher.

My guess is that it has something to do with the fact that Lara Stock's father fell out with the federation when she was young & promising & now they want her back, since she's really good. She was playing for Croatia, when she gained her WGM title.

Actually, if you check the games you will see our boys` opponents today were ..well...how shall I put it ... in need of a lot more practice. We have a number of junior female players in Scotland who are much stronger than this!

For London System lovers (Hugh, not Jacob) Ian's game is a 2m Playchess thrash come true.

GN is right.

All four games involve the Turkish players making tactical errors and falling for some basic tactical motif's. Its a case of Tactics room 101.

Still takes nothing away from the 4 Scots who exploited the chances when they came along.

Perhaps if the Turkish team come in last they will each get a copy of CT ART 3.0 as a consolation prize!!! Wink

Any view on what sort of CS rating the Turkish players would have if they played in Scotland - does their play in these four games suggest they are playing around the 1100-1200 mark?

I feel sorry for the Turkish lads.
I hope one of them puts a point on the board.

Some good stuff is going on in the other games.
I'll have a couple on the next Corner.

From the first 2 rounds I'd estimate the Turkish team as 1300 on top board dropping down to 1000 on board 4.

Sad to see a team with zero points but rather that than 7 of the 12 teams getting a bye

Phil, Geoff,

I agree its unfortunate that the Turkish Team are finding themselves out of their depth. It must be a bit demoralising for them.

Hopefully the will all improve as a result of playing these games and not be put off.
