Hi

A lad in England has been in touch saying as I like wierd
stuff for Chandler Corner I may like a tale about a
guy whose moblie went off during the course of a game.

The Result:

Mobile User 0 nil points - Opponent (half a point).

What is the rule - does the opponent automatically win or
in some cases can the arbiter award the non-mobile user a draw.

If so - what circumstances would one consider not awarding the
full point to the bloke whose mobile did not go off?

Lone King?

(does anybody know to get half point symbol on a labtop?
ALT 171 doesnot work.)

Rule 12.2.b states that the game is lost for the player whose phone rings and that the arbiter shall determine the result of the opponent. Normally the opponent would win but certainly having no possible way to mate would result in 0-½ (I cut and pasted but the code is 0189). It is also possible to give only a draw if the opponent is substantially down on material. That would be the decision of the arbiter as to how bad the position was at the time.
I would react similarly where a player loses by making 3 illegal moves.

So if my mobile phone goes off and I make three
illegal moves I get a draw! Got it. Cheers.

Two more questions:

1) My mobile goes off and I'm playing a totally deaf opponent
who is not put off by the noise of my mobile phone?
(no illegal moves have been made). Ruling?

2) Can a player refuse to accept your ruling and not accept
the win because his opponents phone went off?

0189 (it don't work) - how do you enter code on a poxy labtop?
½ I pasted that one in.

Geoff what if....

2 minutes before your game starts you send a text message to your opponent saying " ha ha you lose" You turn off your phone, your opponent does not, the text takes 3 minutes to be transmitted by the phone company.

These Alt digits are from the numeric keypad. So on a laptop put on your Num Lock, hold down Alt and type mj89.
My laptop is poxy & it works nae bother ½ ½
