Unfortunately, there have been no further entries and the list on the blog is fully up to date.

We probably need at least 14 to run an eight round Swiss, but Alex McFarlane has suggested an alternative format which would allow the event to go ahead with 12 players. We therefore need at least two more entrants.

Closing date for entries will be 10pm, Thursday 2nd June - so for anyone who's interested in playing but hasn't got around to entering yet, there's still time.

Entries to-date:

Eoin Campbell 1925
Ian Marks 1919
Jamie Mollison 1917
Shivan Murdochy 1864
Jonny Scott 1796
James MacRae 1770
Andrew McHarg 1696
Nigel Chapman 1675
Mark Sanderson – 1740 CS
Findlay Murray – 1710 CS

What's the tournament format going to be and have the first round pairings been drawn yet? Cool

The tournament will be two all-play-all groups of 6 (rounds 1-5). For rounds 6-8 the top 3 in each group will play a Scheveningen as will the bottom 3.

Can someone advise how the second (Scheveningen) stage will be run with regards colours and when particular players will play each other.

I'm afraid this can only be known when the qualifiers are confirmed.

Ideally players will get a 4/4 colour split but two players may get a 5/3 (I doubt if it will be more than that but could go to 4 dependant on rd 5 results)

There are 4 players whose next colour is 'forced' having had a double colour in round 5.

The intention is that the top two in each section will meet in round 8 but that will not be confirmed until Saturday lunchtime.

Whilst in one section the 'qualifiers' are fairly certain (barring one result) in the other section the destination of four players has yet to be decided.

This situation is no worse (and indeed arguably better) than if it had been run as a proper swiss.

Round 5 results and standings

Section 1

Jamie Mollison 0 - 1 Paul Scullion
Mark Sanderson ½ - ½ Shivan Murdochy
James MacRae ½ - ½ Nigel Chapman

Scullion 4½, Mollison 3½, Murdochy 3, Sanderson 2, Chapman 1½, MacRae ½

Section 2

Eoin Campbell 0 - 1 Ian Marks
Chris McIntee 0 - 1 Andrew McHarg
Findlay Murray 1 - 0 Jonny Scott

Murray 4, Scott 3½, Marks 3, McHarg, McIntee 2, Campbell ½

Top 3 from each section qualify for Section A in the second phase (Scheveningen), the remainder play in Section B.
