Like the homepage and grading looks good, although I have one major issue....

The list of top players seems to have vanished, the only list of top players now includes any player who has had a published grade in Scotland, even if they have not played for many years.

Can we please have a list of top active Scottish players? This is the only list I have any interest in!

Also we can only now see results from the past 3 season, it used to go back a lot longer, will this be restored as it was interesting to look back over results from a long time ago.

Still, good work so far Razz

Looks good.

I'm sure there will be a few teething problems, as there is with an major revamp. Here's my initial comments:

1. When reviewing someone's games for the season, I prefer to be able to scroll down and see them all on the one page rather than limiting it to 20 games a page.

2. I also liked the little summary of how the live grade was calculated (detailing number of games, average score and average opposition) and that appears to be missing

3. There are a number of other little bits of missing information - dates of games and whether someone has the 200^ rule applied.

The View Stats section is great and it's good for members to be able to see the stats for everyone now.

Well done to everyone involved! There must have been a lot of work to create it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

JR: I have prototypes of top10 adults/juniors/females etc and it will be implemented to the live system in the coming weeks so long as everything with the current system continues to perform properly and there are no major hiccups.

The number of season that you can go back will also be updated within a similar timeframe.

Derek: Point 1 is an interesting one. I had considered adding the option of the number of games that the user wants to show per page but hadn't gotten around to it. Something to consider for the future.

Point 2 will be added back again within a few weeks. Cool

Point 3: The dates of the games were removed because they weren't actually the dates of the games. The dates shown were the dates that the results were updated on the grading system, which was misleading in my view. I'm open to changing that though if enough people think it important enough? The 200^ rule will be shown again in future too.

If you have any other suggestions then please let me know. I have quite a lot more to add throughout the coming months so much has already been considered.

A Cool

Loving your work. Pie charts and best win/worst loss ever are particularly revealing. Very Happy

Great stuff, Andrew. Look forward to the further enhancements over the next few weeks.

I do find the dates useful when assessing how active a player has been and over what period of time, and when assessing the changes in performance over the year, particularly when looking at juniors. However happy to go with what the majority think.

Hi
Just checked it out and would agree with the positive comments so far. My only 'but' comments so far are:-
1. The graphic of chess bits is far too large - don't really think its necessary and it takes up to much valuable space. On my screen at least it plus the extended article on the chnages combine to puch all the 'latest news' items off screen.

2. The lack of a set of fixed links at the top of the page to the most common pages. Most people will bea accessing the same few pages most of the time: links to these should be obvious.

3. Similar to 1 but my first look at the grading page I felt that the grading graph interesting but given its essentially static nature - changes only once a year- it should not be taking up so much space at the top of the page. Perhaps it would be possible to allow that section to be minimised?

4. Is there a link to the Scottish Junior Chess Association Educational Trust (SJCAET) on the home page?

Great work though!

Being one of the dinosaurs, I will reserve judgement on the new implementation. I can see that it is much more modern, but it needs to be tweaked here and there.

The first item that must be addressed is the calendar, it just is not working for me. I can see the events, but when I select them I go to a blank page.

Andy

You have to click on "view calendar" again for the tournament list to open, then click again on the individual tournament website/entry form part to open the website or entry form.

I do agree that it is not very a obvious or ideal set up and have mentioned it to Andrew this morning, but I do appreciate all the hard work that has been done and the fact that the CS Web Site can be amended and updated on an ongoing bases.

New website looks great! The increased player stats are particularly revealing. I thought I was far more sucessful with White than Black but that's not the reality.
A request for more seasons data has been answered above. I hope a link to Alan McGowan's History section will also eventually be restored.
I suppose I miss the grinning mugshots which headed the previous version but overall this new version is a tremendous improvement.

Of course it is new so there are bound to be things missing at the moment so just a couple of points:

It is certainly a lot cleaner than the last site, and is a big improvement. I also found the pie charts amusing with best and worst loss etc. Is it possible to have non-Scottish players included in these charts?

Also how about a touch of blue in the website? It doesn't feel very Scottish in white!

I would also like to see lists of games played in one page.

Overall great job!

After my earlier post I played about with the calendar a bit more and found the way to get the EK information. I feel that selecting the event on the front page should still work however.

This route does not work for everything on the calendar, only those which have a website. This has not been appended for the WoS event this weekend for instance.

Also after posting I noticed Andrew's request for notification by e-mail so I did exactly that.

I was sent my password in plaintext in an email when I set it up just now. Does this mean that the site isn't encrypting passwords?

I was also able to change my address etc details without being asked to re-enter my password.

These are probably things to think about.
