Well done, Alex. And good news, too, for the Scottish Arbiting scene.
Wow, just think. All those famous players.
Excellent news.

How is Alex going to deal with Danailov, Kamsky's dad. Kramnik going to the rest room and all those tie-break clock settings ?

But isn't that why they sent for Alex?

Great to see Scotland in general and Alex in particular recognised at such a high level by FIDE.

Yes, congratulations Alex. Wow, at last, a rational decision from fide ! Laughing

A tricky question: (not for Alex personally, as for the many forumites whose views on certain chess personalities have been clearly expressed in the recent past): In the course of carrying out your official duties, would you be prepared to shake the hand of Kirsan, Silvio, et al? . ( I myself would probably prefer to avoid it, though protocol/ common courtesy might overide personal preference. Confused )

Thanks for the postings and emails of congratulations.

I'm still uncertain if I'm there for only the first round or the entire event.

In either case, to answer Jim, whilst I will not be brown tonguing I will be trying to be polite so I would imagine handshaking will take place.

Re Andy's point: There are very few people allowed in the playing area so 'others' shouldn't be a problem. Players will be escorted by arbiters when going anywhere.

I have no idea why I received an invitation. It was certainly unexpected.

Perhaps it's recognition of the excellent work that you do for chess in Scotland. Without you guys we could not enjoy our chess half as much as we do. Hats off to you Alex.

Just heard the news. This is a considerable honour. Definitely another "GM" result for Scotland!

Well done and well deserved - will you not have to be diplomatic there?

Hi Alex, we'll celebrate at the training event Smile

Concerning Kirsan: I was pleased to be able to shake hands with him - he's done more financially & otherwise FOR CHESS than anyone else I know.

Very good - that excuses everything else the grade A bampot has done or supported then does it Sigrun? I'm surprised you don't recall this story http://www.cpj.org/killed/1998/larisa-yudina.php

Anyway, politics aside, well done Alex! Well-deserved recognition of your excellent work over the years Smile
