It's cool to see such a position from a Scottish board!

If white Queens and black promotes to a Queen then white wins in 1 with Qxf4# Cool

Surely its more satisfying to mate in 2 starting with Qh8+

Ok, I give up - I have just spent 2 hours downloading Winboard and other programs, messing about with them in an attempt to post positions on this here noticeboard and I am well and truly stumped! I can't seem to get a diagram to appear : (

This rubbishy forsyth thing below is all I get when I try to follow Jim's instructions - albeit with a newer version of Winboard; the older one mentioned wouldn't work : (

r1bq1rk1/p5b1/1p5p/2pPp3/P3Pp2/3P1PpP/2NBQ1P1/1R3RK1 b - - 0 20

Could somebody please help?

Andy,

I'm very sorry, I was only telling Alan he could use WinBoard as a quick and convenient way to view positions or games posted in this forum (or anywhere on the web, or while reading a chess ebook) on his computer screen only.

I wasn't actually describing a way to post a picture here, and I'm really sorry I gave you that impression. I'm embarrassed now, especially as you spent 2 hours trying...

Jim

Hahaha, no worries Jim! I take full responsibility for my lack of technical know-how Embarassed

Still, both Mike and Geoff seem to have found ways to post diagrams, so it can't be THAT difficult Wink

I used to use EPD2diag 'back in the day':
http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/diaeng.htm

The link also gives lots of other resources, some of which are new since I last visited, which was probably around 7 years ago.

Currently I use the Chess Merida font for puzzle sheets and 'type' the positions onto a blank diagram by hand, as the symbols used for pieces are sensible. (You could then take a screenshot of the diagram, crop it in an editor like paint.net, and post it as an image on a forum, but that's a bit like opening an unlocked door by detatching the hinges, walking through, then reattaching them.)

Andy,
You need some where to store the image on line - in my case I stuck the jpeg on my own ftp server - then you use the Img button above to insert a hyperlink to the image.

I used some software uility (chessdiagrammer) I found that allows you set up positions and to save in a number of formats, including jpeg.

You can use sites that are designed specifically to store photos (e.g. google, flicker) but then I guess you need to make sure that the right passswords etc are embedded in the link if required... etc

Not sure if that is 'easy' but if you know how I guess it is.
