It's fine if the slow game comes first - I certainly wouldn't want to play 5 -minute chess before a proper game though; I don't think it's good preparation at all, although I'm sure some will disagree with me on this!?
I didn't stay for the lightning event last weekend (transport issues) but I would be more likely to play it after the March SNCL game than as a separate event in December. |

Joe,
In an ideal world what happens elsewhere doesn't matter but when that event is likely to reduce participation it must be considered.
Not only has there been a significant number of Scots taking part in the Classic but the Internet coverage is such as to dissuade Scots staying at home from entering an event, particularly if the weather may be a disincentive to entry as well.
Look at the Scots who were missing from Glenrothes preferring Blackpool instead. Look also at those who were playing in the 4NCL rather than the SNCL or Lightning.
I accept that clashes cannot always be avoided but there are events where it is worth looking at what is happening elsewhere if you want to maximise numbers/revenue. |

Is it so difficult to avoid a clash of the team blitz with major international tournaments? Scottish participation in the London Classic is only likely to increase.
Not fussed if it's in March or December but holding it on the same day as SNCL seems to increase the chances of more teams playing.
"As for game v match points I don't see why it should be changed now after 30+ years of one format."
Joe, you are getting old |
