LOL ha ha ha just picked myself up - I will believe it when I see them -
u - computer - camera - photos - upload just dont go in the same sentence

But its not a sentence unless there is a full stop at the end - period.

Round 3 started a few minutes ago.

In the U8 Vagif plays the No 1 seed on top board. No.1 seed has a fide grade of 1356 its one of those 50/50 matches. We're more nervous than the lad.

Temperature is up to 30 degreees or so today.

All Round 1 games were put onto web site overnight = so no real need for us to upload them.

Photos will be uploaded by one of the journalists in the squad.

See - I don't neeed Jacqui to do all my delegating for me !

First result in

Matthew shook hands with opponent just before 3 p.m then went to buy a bottle of water.

This took 6 minutes which is higher than the 5 minutes allowed and he was defaulted.

Matthew blames the leg as he was limping to and from the shop!

My appeal did not work. Whatever happened to acting in the best interests of the tournament?????

Some great results so far!

While as someone that is against quick draws, especially amongst juniors, I am pleased to see an organiser willing to enforce a rule I assume that is aimed at stopping them, it is concerning if a rule is enforced that has actually not been broken! That is disappointing.

Must also also add that a '5min' rule seems a bit daft if it is aimed solely at stopping quick draws: surely a min. number of moves is more to the point.

EDIT: OOps got the wrong end of the stick (again). Can only agree that it seems exceedingly mean and pointless. Give Matthew a warning if needs be and get on with it.

My understanding of this was that Matthew was defaulted as he was not at his board. So a 5 minute default time. Ludicrous implementation of a ridiculous rule.

Correct Andy completely ludicrous

Additionally Matthew shook hands with his opponent and wrote both names onto tneh score sheet.

Which is written evidence that he was present at or near to the start.

The arbiter claimed he had to make a move. This is I believe incorrect, and the player has to be present.

Which goes to show that certain parts of the Uk do not have a monopoly on poor quality arbiters.

What a silly rule... and what's the point in it? Were the players actually even made aware of such a rule anyway, excluding size 9 writing on a long T&C sheet, which doesn't count imo?

Confused

To summarise yesterday:

Wins for Liam against England player and for Colin v 1507.

Draws for Ben v 1886 and for Vagif.

Andrew had a bye.

Matthew - crazy that they would implement it to prevent someone from playing.

Both against strongly graded opponents.

Some really strong results over the rounds. Well done all.

Dear Wife (nearly wrote wifi)
I was online at the time,
looking for games from previous rounds.

We have no access to internet except at the venue during play.

Edit after 1.5 hours play First result in is a win for Liam Very Happy
Major handicap when looking for data from games in previous rounds

The whgole squad deserves much kudos for coming back from 1/7 in round 3 to getting 4/7 in round 4 then another 4/7 in round 5. Possibly something I saidpossibly the ban on doubles and 5 minute games that came in after round 3

It could easily be more than 4 points in today's 6th round - which started a few minutes ago. Gut feeling based upon this mornings training session.

After 1.5 Hours play the first result is in ..... a win for Liam Very Happy
