So no reply Ian to your last question ("does no reply mean no?") in which case if no reply means no then it must mean your statement is false so no reply means yes.... |

So Ian, that could mean the weekends that would have been occupied by Hawick and Perth are now available for you to organise a Cumbernauld congress without clashing. _________________ Chess Club - the first rule of Chess Club is you don't talk about Chess Club. |

It could mean that but what if it doesn't? |

Sorry, Ian, it was just an attempt at mischief.
I'll keep quiet in future. _________________ Chess Club - the first rule of Chess Club is you don't talk about Chess Club. |

I can see that finding out things like dates for this is a bit like trying to find out fixtures in SNCL i.e. a pointless waste of my time.
A few years back my family enjoyed planning our winter trip to Oban. The regular spot was first weekend December. I think last year it was held in February for first time ever? To ensure suitable accomodation and to ensure no major conflicts with other family commitments requires planning. The more notice there is of dates, the easier that planning becomes. It is beyond me why someone would go to the trouble of organising a congress but not take the time to have it is listed in the Chess Scotland calendar. I don't get that at all! |

Totally agree. Can someone involved with any future Oban congress please inform everyone the dates of this event.
Robin. |

Organisers vary. Some dont post here or rarely look at the noticeboard. I know one who is not on email. Some events make full use of CS site by early delivery of dates and or entry form - some even have their own website.
After all the hard work of organising the event most now give a list of prizewinners, photos, although a few still dont. If an event wants some newspaper post-event publicity a few game scores available immediately make it much more likely the event will get a mention. |

Well today I am booking time off for February using up my remaining annual holiday entitlement and as much as I would have liked to play some chess in Oban, given it is now 18th January and I still do not know what "the usual spot" is, I will be organising a long weekend for the family elsewhere this year.
I have to say I find it bizarre that any tournament organiser can afford to take such a lackadaisical approach towards capturing an audience for their event. |

Wasn't there a topic before about the Hawick Congress and why it no longer exists? If it's any help I seem to recall the Congress is no longer running! |

The 'usual' spot for Oban is the end of November beginning of December. It took place in February 2010 as a one off. |

there is an alternative in Airdrie 12-13
Feb but I dont suppose it has the weekend 'holiday' appeal as Oban!! |

With the exception of last year, Oban has always been November / December since I have been going to it.
They did say last year was going to be an exception |
