Thanks Andy,

Scalps are good but additionally the targets I set in advance are
(a) Return with an impressive points total - taken over the whole team.
(b) Return with significantly stronger U12 and U10 and U8 players.
(c) Make the the whole party enjoys their experience in Greece.

(a) is measurable as we progress
(b) is measurable throught the grading system in the few months after the event.
(c) I take action at the time and I take notice of any complaints or other feedback made at the time or shortly after our return.

The adults in the party will do our best to send reports back daily. This depends of course on internet accessibility

- even if that coverage is patchy then the event web site can be expected to give excellent coverage updated many time each day.

Link to that web site is on front page of CS site. Can you add link into this thread please

Just back from Glasgow airport to see the boy off. With today's weather I, and a few of the other non-travelling parents, were regreting the decision to stay at home!

The competitors in each section can be found here:-
http://chess-results.com/Oesterreich.aspx?id=5629&mm=0&m=0&MZ=5630

Good luck to them all - each will have many a tough battle but I am sure they will do us proud.

Thanks to Phil & Jaqui for making this happen.

I just took a look at the sections. There are going to be some tough games, but I'll lay odds we see some great victories!

I am guessing it is just a blip on the website but Andrew seems to be in the U/18 section and Clement has sneaked into the U/16 section Wink. Anyway Goodluck to all!

We arrived early evening at Berlin 'airport' hotel (which was 10mins drive away!!). We split into 2 groups - one went into Berlin city centre to see the sites & the rest of us found a restaurant a few minutes walk from the hotel which was a fraction of the hotel charges.

we had an early alarm as taxis were coming to get us at 4.30am for our flight to Thessaloniki. A chartered coach was waiting for us at Greece & took us the 1.5hour drive onto Port Carras, Halkidiki. We were not disappointed it is a 5* hotel Very Happy . After some delays by the organisers we were eventually allocated our rooms - ours is great with a balcony overlooking the swimming pools & sea - has all mod cons we need apart from internet access in the room (& I wont be using room service for tea or coffee as 5 euro).

Lunch was served buffet style, self serve so everyone was able to find something they liked (even Ali). The afternoon was spent chilling by or in the pool & some went onto the private beach & into the sea.

Evening meals was served from 7pm & the troops are relieved to hear that dinner each night will be available until 10.30pm as they were panicking with the games not starting until 4pm & could go to the wire.

Tonight the work has begun & there have been coaching sessions & some have opted to do their own preparation. Phil is currently at the organisers meeting getting the finer details of proceedings. Everyone seems to be relaxed & ready for their first game - bring it on.

By the way we had glorious sunshine today & temp was around 23C Twisted Evil

as always at these events internet access is terrible & very much hit & miss & of course I manage the miss part. However, I just came in from sunning by the poolside Very Happy & thought I would try as most people are at the playing venue.

You will know by now that yesterday the results to report were Ian McDonalds win & Andrew McClements draw.

I only know of two results so far today & they are a loss for Liam Richmond & a win for Colin Howie.

I dont know how quickly the WYCC website is being updated with results but the draw was not out by midnight (local time) & we all gave up. Phil was up at 6am & gathered the info then.

I have done daily blogs & will try & send to Dougie to put up for you to see.

Jac,

If you are in the same hotel I was in. The best internet reception is downstairs
