|
|
James Gillespies High will be entering what was the Sunday Times - now YATELEY MANOR - NATIONAL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP and would encourage other schools to do so.
The entry form is found here http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/entries2010-11.doc
It does operate an age handicap so younger teams should not be put off. |

2-0: Good win by Escher .
Sam has the upper hand but it may be a hard to convert 1 p advantage in rook ending. Jonny has swapped q for 2 r: too complicated for me. Shivan and Rhian are grinding - but Rhian is a Bishop up ! |

The nationwide results are on this page, which gets updated as results are sent in. The group stages just show who won and who was the runner-up, but board-wise results are published in the knockout stages:

Well done guys, what a team! I doubt if there are many or any other schools in Scotland that could field a team of that many let alone their strength |

JGHS has benefitted from having two well organised feeder schools but that on its own is not enough. The school is very supportive: it values what the pupils do and for Saturday it provided practical help in a significant contribution to the cost of getting the team to N. Ireland. |

The team are in the last 16 and playing Manchester Grammer in Carlisle today. The age handicap means that we 'simply' need to win the match to get through - I had feared we'd need a 4-2 win.
Unfortunately I am tied to my desk nervously waiting for Hugh's texts for the results:-
Rishi Pandya won.
but Ecsher needs some luck to avoid a loss. Remaining four boards are close. |

Latest update is that Shivan won on bd 1, Rhian lost (bd 2), Jonny's drawing and Sam's in trouble. Which if Escher lost (not confirmed) means the score is 2 - 2 and we need 1.5 from last two games. Not looking good |

Sadly the result is now confirmed as a 2.5 - 3.5 win for MGS.
Shivan win
Rhian Loss
Jonny Draw
Sam Loss
Ecsher Loss
Rishi Win
Shame because the opponents in the qtr finals look on paper not to be as strong as MGS. Never mind, always next year! |
