Which is a very pleasing 50% score. |

Hmm,
I seem to remember people commenting that we would have players coming back with no points at all. Good to see we are getting some excellent results and holding our own against players that are graded far above ours.
Makes you wonder if we have grading deflation |

Yes!
A very impressive result with only 6 round gone. These tournaments are very strong and many opponents are far stronger than their grade suggests and some ungraded players are even stronger still. For newcomers to score at all is a big achievement. |

In the younger age groups there seems to be some severe grading inflation abroad.
Mainly generated in national age group champioships.
I don't know the answer but I perceive a lack of consistency entering the whole of the FIDE system.
In my view this Requires an increase to k values for younger players - is this happening ....does anyone know ??
Our FIDE rated juniors have gained around 50 points over the first 6 rounds ...a small change and perhaps evidence of consistency in grades for these older players. |

K factors were supposed to be increased in July but at the last minute, following much objection from players, this was 'postponed'. The current system is being run in tandem with the new system so that it can be seen what the effect of the change in k factor would be.
With the current k factor and the 1200 floor and 6 lists a year there can be little doubt that FIDE have introduced deflation into its system. Juniors will have a difficult time getting their rating to improve at a realistic rate unless huge numbers of games are played within one rating period. |

I think that updating the FIDE rating list every 2 months might help people progress if they think they are undergraded. September's update is out and some nice additions in the Scottish juniors. |

The 2 months slows advancement. If an improving junior had 20 games in a 3 month period then the performance would be calculated on their initial low grade but if they played 10 in each period then the first ten would be based on the low grade but less credit would acrue to the second 10 as they would be based on the new higher grade, therefore the overall effect is less of an increase. (This is a simplification as it assumes opponents remain constant - but you get the idea.) This was why it was suggested that the k factor should be changed (and indeed should have been changed when FIDE moved to 4 lists per year). |

Well done all you guys - I am so pleased you are getting the reults & hushing the critics - even though I envy you all for getting the sun, sea & sand whilst we continue to get rain, rain, rain
To improve - gain experience - get experience by being given opportunities & taking those opportunities |

If I have added it up correctly, I make that 8 1/2 with more results to come in!
Excellent performance again |

What makes it better is that Andrew's and Shivan's draws were 0.5 pts dropped rather than gained, as both were winning.
Its worth checking out the new FIDE grades - for example two of Jonny s. opponents have made significant gains - one was <1800 previously and now is >1900 and today's opponent went from 1690 to 1750 following one event recent event in which he played 8 or so games vs players >2056 and lost only 1. |
