As most readers will have guessed I will be standing for re-election at the agm on August 16th. At some point, not yet clearly defined, the full list of candidates will be published.
Since I have Swine flu and I am confined to barracks in Torquay without access to viable e mail facilities I am unable to mount an effective campaign for votes .
Adding to my difficulties is the fact the the deadline for gathering proxy votes expires before the family returns to Scotland from Torquay.
Could any individual wishing to join my campaign team contact me via private message on this notice board. If you don't have an a log in then please e mail Andy Howie who can register you very quickly - he is in the neighbouring caravan next door also suffering with Swine flu. |

May 2008, when Phil announced he was standing for IJD, he stated that he would be judged by his achievements at the AGM.
For the 2009 AGM, here is a pictorial record of our achievements to date

I would support Phil Thomas as IJD as he past performance speaks for itself.
As long as I have known Phil he has always been very supportive of all juniors playing chess.
On a personal note when Kirkhill Primary School Chess Club was set up 4 years ago Gordon started playing chess and since then Gordon has gone from strength to strength. He was part of the school teams both P5 and under and Primary which went on to become National Champions.
With coaching and support from Phil, Gordon has gone from novice to International player in less than 4 years. He gained his second Scotland cap last week when he played in the Under 12 team in the Four Nations Tournament in Glasgow.
I hope that Phil is successful in his bid to gain a second year in office as IJD.

Thomas Howie media productions?
Very well done and this production shows what a positive season 2008/9 was for Junior Chess in Scotland.
In my view the junior board have done a fantastic job, applying their dedication, organisational skills, coaching skills and above all years of experience into discharging their responsibilities. Organising so many activities within a 365 day period is no mean feat. Many people would be chuffed just to have organised one event out of the many events they have organised.
Well done to all of the board members and to the volunteers who have helped them out over the last year.
I would encourage anyone interested in helping develop junior chess and contribute at a national level to work WITH the current international junior director and his board and build on the 2008/9 season over the next few years.
This team have demonstrated their abilities in full and have used their wide network of contacts and influence to drive junior chess and to deliver.
The scottish junior chess cup looks to be way more than half full as I see it!!
